| Assemblage 23 – Binary Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Does anyone notice the "binary eyes" pun? Binary, as in 11110010011000011101, like a computer's thoughts, as well as black and white being known as "binary colors/pigments." He's giving one meaning, but two sets of implication by saying "don't see things in only black and white," as well as "don't think like a computer." Computers, as we all know, "think" in an inflectionless manner, sans emotion and therefore any real depth or insight. Even in all those movies, where the computer becomes self-aware and goes batshit insane, it speaks in a monotonous tone, and, when faced with human emotions, says "I don't fucking get it, what do you mean by, 'feel'?" Following this, I think the "All hail the death of compromise" line is a semi-sarcastic, "how the Bush/computer/hollow thinks" thing. If you think I'm wrong, please forgive me for being presumptuous, and don't stare a flamewar over it. Those are against the purpose for which this site exists. | |

lead and gold are both heavy. even if the leaden anchor were transmuted into gold, it'd still drag you down. also, the song points out (by means of repetitios implication) that holding a grudge also tends to fabricate a vicarious point of existence. for instance, take the widely-used (in American mass-media, at least) cliche of some bad-assed protagonist's family, friend, well-loved pet, etc. being mercilessly slaughtered. he'll cry for awhile, then he'll get a gun and start killing people and blowing shit up left and right. he is more-or-less immortal, kept alive only by his resolve to kill all of the antagonists before finally either dying or riding off into the sunset.........still, all thats accomplished is more people having been hurt and killed. |
