i can tell it's about america, but what the philosophical point is that it's trying to make i'm not sure...
but it doesn't seem blatantly negative. could even be positive and simply saying that there is some kind of hope that the people of america will bring to the rest of the world |

| Papa Roach – Tyranny of Normality Lyrics
| 17 years ago

j'm not really a papa roach fan but found it ridiculous that no one could figure out what this song means. the meaning is in the title. it's about being enslaved by the popular opinion. people give in to stupid trends without questioning the reasoning behind them. we live in a culture that's bigger on conformity than it is on individualism. most people don't understand that there's nothing wrong with being "weird". this song is basically just bashing "normal" people or anyone who thinks it's good to be normal and bad to be weird. it's not just about personality etc. but it's about the complacent, unquestioning attitude of these people who can't really think critically, and how that affects/makes our society more retarded. |

| KMFDM – Anarchy Lyrics
|
contrary to most of the posts here...
i would have to say i don't believe this song is a negative take on anarchy(that belief mostly stems from the misconception of what anarchy actually is)
nor is it about religion.
while i can't say i know everything about anarchy, i have started reading up on it lately and what i do know is that it stems from the belief that people are capable of living freely in a voluntarist society without requiring goverment. people should not control other people, as that is essentially the root of evil. true anarchists generally don't idolize the type of chaotic horrible place people are describing here. anarchist ideas can be generally utopian, and often perceived as idealistic by those who don't fully understand anarchism, due to the fact that it would depend upon a lot of social reform and the bulk of society would have to greatly change it's thinking.
it would not surprise me at all if any of the members of kmfdm were anarchists or had some kind of anarchist views. but whether or not this song is actually about anarchy, i cannot say for sure. personally i think it's one of their more meaningless or abstract songs. it's just someone describing the way they feel, they're tired of being oppressed, but they feel they have some redeeming piece of knowledge that makes them immortal to whatever it is their opponent is throwing at them.
i think it's a positive song. |

| Incubus – Nice To Know You Lyrics

jesus. i wouldn't think so many people posting on a song meanings site would be so dull and superficial... i don't have time to go through all the posts, but i didn't see that anyone said this yet... so pardon me if i'm wrong, but this song is not about relationships or drugs or a hand or anything that specific. not even if brandon himself says it is, i do not care. if he actually said that, he probably did because singers often tell obvious fibs about the meanings of their songs to interviewers, either to be funny or to mock them, or simply because they don't like talking about something that's that personal to them. this song is about how looking at things(hands, relationships, etc.) from the "bird's eye", god's perspective, if you will makes everything seem perfect, because it is perfect. it's about stepping outside of your own selfish needs and looking at the big picture, and yes this type of thinking can be applied to hands or relationships, so in that sense, yes it could be considered to be "about" those things, but is definitely not specifically about them. as hugh mentioned, it may be that that experience gave him a new perspective on things, or made him appreciate them more. |

by the sky falling, he means bombs falling, as in on our enemies, etc. he's saying that when it happens, the world is in a bad state, people just don't care as long as it's not visible over here. |

| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics

"metal is long gone, get over it"...
(slaps forehead)
metal is as alive as it will ever be. crawl out from underneath your rock for a minute and browse the millions of metal bands(including the better experimental ones, tool, meshuggah, ministry, dream theater, mnemic, to name a few on, hell even myspace alone. this song does not rock the house because it is basic and unoriginal. the vocals are generic. if this sounds new to you, it is because you are way too sheltered and buying into the bullshit void of any substance that our pathetic pop culture is constantly shoving down your throats. |

OR by "sacrifice yourself" he could just mean stop being selfish and open up to something that could easily possibly be the best thing that ever happened to them. |

imagine you knew everything in a world of people who know very little. they'd want to burn you at the stake. not even if you knew everything, if only you knew more, or not even more, just what they didn't know. a simple unique set of experiences that revealed something to you could be the greatest burden... |

thomas is one of the disciples from the bible. the one who denied jesus three times, i think also the one who asked to see jesus's hands to see if he had holes in them. "doubting thomas. also supposedly the one who's supposed to be standing at the gate of heaven and letting people in and turning people down, although i don't know if that was actually in the bible or just some cheesy catholic thing... |

i'm not all that interested in bashing this band, but this song, oh my... this is the single most unoriginal song i have ever heard, at every possible level. but i guess what can you expect from a band that decides to go by the "plain white t's"? as far as lyrics go... if you don't realize that if you replaced "girl" with "boy" this could pass for a britney spears song, then may god have mercy on your soul. |

"So sacrifice yourself
And let me have what's left"
seems like a pretty retarded thing to say and mean in a song that's supposed to be about real love. perhaps he's changing perspectives, or saying what he feels the other person is expressing to him. either way i think he is the one who is "dying". or perhaps he did mean it in a less literal sense. he knows that the only way he can get over it is if they completely "sacrifice themself", as in go away. he can't stand to be around them, it just gets worse. |

although i would disagree, i think he's talking about bands like rammstein and marylin manson who dress "showy" and do things on stage to make it more of a show, aside from the music. i would defend them by saying that as long as what they're wearing and doing is their own style, then it's ok. |

about being attached/addicted to someone while knowing that they aren't worth it. it relates to deformography in that one person is both obsessed with and repulsed by the other's imperfections. nothing to do with [religion]. |

this song is not about a chick or a break-up or any of that. it's about the whole clubbing scene. it's about how dancing is pure, but there's all these superficial people slobbering all over each other, and it's about how that applies to everything else on a broader scale, the media, etc. how much are you willing to give in and become a part of something... gross. |

yeah, sex is a natural thing. but so are herpes, aids, and syphilis. so are shit eating, shit vomiting maggots. so is acne. i bet you like everything nature throws at you?
it's funny to claim both being a nazi and knowing what is "low-life, scum & dirt".
only to argue that you have no arguement. |
