| Amazing lyrics... you can relate this song to so many things. Starting something, getting lost in the way to finally fall, blaming someone else or many for your mistakes, to latter realise that you haven't found peace within yourself and therefore won't be in peace with the world or with that person until you solve things within you. This time the unforgiven is oneself. | |

'still haven't read the book nor do I have the CD :( these seem to be the definite lyrics, though: in the cold misty morning gleaming rays awake the dawn here I stand, a stranger in this land does your conscience betray you? falling from grace, feel the sun on my face does desire still hold true? mystified by her beauty does the hunter pity his prey? under starless skies all love must die and fade away take my hand, divine or damned, make a stand, seize the day yours or mine, damned or divine, draw the line, come what may looking down form ethereal skies silent crystalline tears I cry for all must say their last goodbye to paradise has my yearning been silenced by angelic skin of white love conquers all though heavens fall, this fateful night yours or mine, damned or divine, draw the line, serpentine love is a tragedy all that I have, all that I'll ever need is right here inside let the winds of freedom, be my guide looking down form ethereal skies silent crystalline tears I cry for all must say their last goodbye to paradise say goodbye... goodbye so I've cheated and I've lied 'been the victim of foolish pride and I've begged and I've crawled and I've battled, and bled for it all so I'll savour the downfall... of paradise looking down form ethereal skies silent crystalline tears I cry for all will say their last goodbye to paradise I conclude from previous comments and these supposed "definite" lyrics that seem to be taken from the booklet, that it's Satan looking over Eden and lamenting its future demise, that will be brought indirectly by him, since he is awe of the beauty of the place... he finally reaffirms his beliefs, to go through with the plan of corrupting paradise. There definitely seems to be a voice from someone that is watching these events from "ethereal skies", knows what will happen but is determined not to interfere in the events (God?) or maybe someone that does not have the power (an Angel?). |

| 'could be that there's more than a character in the lyrics ... I think that I have to read the book, or maybe there's more info on the cd booklet beside the correct lyrics ¬¬ some parts of the song seem to be spoken by someone else than the main person ... | |

I took this from Wikipedia (the song a presume happens during these happenings): "Adam goes on a vision journey with an angel where he witnesses the errors of man and the great Flood, and he is saddened by the sin that they have released through the consumption of the fruit. However, he is also shown hope – the possibility of redemption – through a vision of Jesus Christ. They are then cast out of Eden and an angel adds that one may find "A paradise within thee, happier farr." They now have a more distant relationship with God, who is omnipresent but invisible (unlike the previous tangible Father in the garden of Eden)." I haven't read the book, but I do agree that the lyrics could be interpreted as Satan thinking about the imminent war with heaven, but the "love" issue would be weird... Could it mean Satan's show of love for the heavens, but showing determination in his rebellion at the same time? |

| Considering it's based on the book "Paradise Lost" (Milton), it should be about Adam making the decision to side with his love, Eve, admitting that he's on the way of falling from grace, that he won't turn back and even in sorrow, as a way of making himself feel better, he'll savour the downfall of paradise... This is, of course, if the lyrics are correct. | |

Here's another version: in the cold misty morning gleaming rays awake the dawn here I stand, a stranger in this land does your conscience betray you? falling from grace, feel the sun on my face does desire still hold true? mystified by her beauty does the hunter pity his prey? under starless skies our love must die and fade away take my hand, defy the damned, make a stand, seize the day yours or mine, damned or divine, draw the line, come with me looking down form ethereal skies saline crystalline tears I cry for all must say their last goodbye to paradise my yearning is silenced by angelic skin of white love conquers all for heavens fall, this fateful night yours or mine, damned or divine, draw the line, serpentine love is a tragedy all that I have, all that I'll ever need is right here inside let the wings of freedom, be my guide looking down form ethereal skies saline crystalline tears I cry for all must say their last goodbye to paradise say goodbye... goodbye so I've cheated and I've lied been the victim of foolish pride and I've begged and I've crawled and I've battled, and bled for it all so I'll savour the downfall... of paradise looking down form ethereal skies saline crystalline tears I cry for all will say their last goodbye to paradise |

*inadaptation ... :p oh... and an important aspect of Borderline, one that makes you think it could be written about it here, is that you always take things to the limit and waver between opposites constantly: love and apathy towards someone, in this case. |

| Madonna – Borderline Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yes, "Borderline" is a personality disorder. It's related to depression and desadaptation among other things. I don't know if it refers to it here, but it perfectly could be. | |
