Coney Island is depressing because it used to be such a popular destination for everyone and now it really is run-down. Despite some of the original rides being open (and all independently run), most of them are closed and some are still sitting there rotting. I heard that some company just bought astroland though... By the way, the thunderbolt was not a "precursor" to the cyclone. When Coney Island was at its prime (when my dad was growing up in Brooklyn) there were three main rollercoasters. The Cyclone(still open), the Thunderbolt (the one that was sitting there rotting for a very long time until they finally got rid of it), and the Tornado (which hasnt been ther for a very long time). |
