Could possibly be related to the Northern Irish peace process? Just a thought... probably wrong. But if you treat it allegorically it seems to fit. "Everyday I think about her But if I look back I'll turn to stone" You can't forget the past, but you have to look forward to the future if the peace is going to hold... "A new day it is dawning I feel the pain is gone The open world is calling And I am moving on" ...don't really need to explain, it sort of speaks for itself. As I say, probably inaccurate... but no worse than some of the stuff I've read on here ;-) |

Great song, surprisingly simple message that's already been elucidated by contributors above, so not much to add. Just a couple of corrections that I THINK are right... Firstly I'm almost certain it's "weight of the words" in verse 2. Secondly, the final phrase should go like this... And we're willing to waste away, like this. When everything's complicated you've gone amiss. You know I could be, everything you want me to be. But we haven't spoke in days, Yeah in fact it's been a matter of weeks. Gosh. 17 pages of "I hate Emo!" "I love Emo!" I think it's alright. I like the fact it's about 8 songs in one, quite Queen-ish. One correction to the lyrics - I'm 99% sure that it's "defiant to the end" rather than "do you fight it till the end". |

Must be awesome to be omniscient. I thought the idea of truly great songs is that they mean different things to different people - but being a mere mortal, I might well be wrong. The fulcrum of this song for me is 'All the love I have is in my mind,' I think we've all felt like that at some stage of our lives or another. I also love the way it builds from the accoustic beginning to a series of vocal and melodical layers, like a wave of emotions. Cracking song that easily surpasses any of his later stuff in my view. |

Not sure on the mumbling front - I'll run it through some audio processing things and see if I can get it any clearer. Beggar's Banquet could also be a reference to the Rolling Stones album of the same name... but I'm buggered if I know how. |
