| This song reminds me of growing up, there is a couple and they are deeply in love but the break up because of what they think they want in life. They break up because of circumstance and society and the pressure to become independent. Then years down the road, instead of being lovers, they are more like "good friends" for these "unreal" reasons (the reason they broke up). Now he realizes that what is real in the world is the relationship he had with this girl. He is trying to break her away from the binds of society and he is asking her to give him another chance because he can make it perfect. He is convincing her, telling her he knows how free spirited she is and that she truly wants to give him another chance. Perhaps he tells her this in a letter. He hopes she responds and he fantasizes about them meeting somewhere. He pictures them seeing each other, looking like strangers, but lovers when they meet. This is how I feel this song relates to a story. | |

| I know the Cupid and Psyche story, and it does sound extremely similar. However, the first time I heard the song it reminded me of someone who had a girlfriend and circumstances tore them apart. The split made them fight, but he realized though that it was good, and that they learned how to love and how to be loved. He forgets about the memory as his life goes on. Then years down the road, he wakes up and realizes he and his son are going to be separated due to circumstance and the memory is reborn. He wants his son to go and be loved and know loved how he learned when he was young. This story couldn’t be about someone in the band, but maybe it was a song about someone they know, or inspired by a family member, or something. It doesn’t seem like the smashing pumpkins to write about Greek mythology, but who knows right? | |
