Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – Just to See MY Holly Home Lyrics 19 years ago
I never understood the 'bloody planet' lyric until reading here about all the 'bodies in the reeds'.
i think this song is a bit obstreperous, hard to tango with and wrap my head around, but it is so d**m catchy and really gets you excited about the song and the lyrics are clearly a bit twisted so i think Will here is showing the absolute folly of trying to rid your world of 'all who harm us' and yet we see the other's point of view by wanting to keep the 'babies bouncing on their knee' safe. it'a a cranky sort of i-want-to-be-safe-at-all-costs sort of song i think after a few listens it really does make its point.

Palace Music – brute choir Lyrics 19 years ago
this song brings home literally the heartache of love as a sadness of belonging and family "cow-call and they were all calling together/describing the way to go" and eventaully it's loss. Will begins this song with the intention of establishing us the person that experiences human love and heartache as being similar to the animals with strong familial, emotional communal bonds. As he does the next lines bring the sense of intimacy from the song that always presents itself in a very genuine and insightful song.
The blathering of others is a disgust to the songwriter in the second stanza and we identify with the strong feelings of destruction, renewal and longing: "shut their mouths, shut their mouths/and rip the pictures down/withdraw, withdraw, you live so far from town". Will seems to be tearing himself away from an impossible love.
"Their voices are bringing trees to their knees" is an exquisite line of songwriting and poetry and it is echoed in the song with the beautiful smooth buttery and high voice of the female vocalist.
Finally at the end, "the choir, choir, the voices go higher", the lovelorn surrenders himself to the beauty and freedom of religious expression and he is overtaken as is this listener when listening to the final stanza in a well beautifully and insightfully written song. This song moves from conciously and endearingly likening ourselves to cattle and then concludes with the lofted spirit taking flight with the voices of the choir. I love this song!
