Okay I've heard people think this is a Christian song but I honestly don't think so (just my opinion). I think this is song is just about people who've had a long and troubled life finally finding their way to death. Their burden is ended and they can finally rest. I also believe Death is the speaker of this...and it makes death itself seem less scary... |

| Isis – Celestial (The Tower) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| its all apart of the huge ass concept that every Isis cd is a part of. "Mosquito Control" introduced the idea of a swarm attacking things, "the Red Sea" introduced the sea, "celestial" brought the towers and the idea of the acting as a swarm to control and also the female character, "oceanic" produced the sea again and the female character, "panopticon" has the tower theme and a more heightening sense of control, "in the absence of truth" focuses on the female character and also the whole idea of Hassen-i-Sabbah | |

| i thought the last lines were "my life, i give" you know to go along with the whole Firdous E Bareen concept about someone giving up to the man and submitting to heaven | |

alright - my idea is that the entirety of the 13th step is a concept album revolving around the story of a person on drugs and i decided this is just a good place as any to post this idea. heres how the album goes as follows 1 - the package: just describing the characters want for the drug and what he/she will do to get it 2 - weak and powerless: the main character realizes then that they have no self control over the drug and want to get over it 3 - the noose: the main character meets someone who came over drugs. this other character wears this accomplishment as a "halo" the main character just thinks this other character as cocky and beligerant 4 - blue: this song is from another persons perspective who slowly watches the main character fade away and is in denial of him/her fading away (from the mouth of maynard hisself). 5 - vanishing: the main character realizes that he is fading away. quite simple. 6 - a stranger: someone else sees the main character falling apart and doesnt care that much about the main person and just ignores it. 7 - the outsider: this is from another persons point of view how thinks the whole falling apart thing is a farce and just basically tells the main guy to "walk it off" 8 - crimes: how many times the main character has done the drug. the numbers just keep going on and on and on and on. 9 - the nurse...: this is the only song that puzzles me but since its a cover song, it dont really matter 10 - pet: from the drugs point of view telling the main character to just hide away from everyone and just be susectible to the drug 11 - lullaby: actual representation of the drug lulling the main character to sleep 12 - gravity: and finally the last song. this is about the main character wanting to get over the drug but realizes it is almost a hopeless cause...its also a cliffhanger. |

i only have to disagree a little with Geofare. i think the song is about how the idea of the Panoptican came into being because their have been so many books written on the idea of a Panoptican and it shows that if we dream the future up, there is also the possibility that we can go down the path we just made for ourselves. the last two lines signify the guard of the Panoptican. he is the "mortal sun" : he is always watching the prisoners worlds and will eventually pass on but for now the cannot escape his everseeing gaze. |

well doing my lovely research iv'e discovered that the whole cd is an epic story revolving around the story of a Panoptican society or prison type thing. either way a large group of people somehow ended from someplace resembling Eden (forest caves and azure skies) into ending up where they are under constant survelience and scrutinized by a lone figure which they can never see. this goes on and on for many years until they decide to rebel and this is where the song brings us. also i think its an interesting note that they may be refering to our society as a Panoptican in the sense that a God type figure may be constantly watching us but we can never see him |
