I think from the artist's perspective, the lyrics wants to illustrate the story of a person who's death was sudden and which truth was left unjustified... "It was me on that road But you couldn't see me Too many lights out But nowhere near here" It starts off by depicting a general setting, describing what presumably could be a pedestrian out in the dark on a road. Already at this point, however, the narrator indicates that something was unjustified, through the third and fourth verses, conveying that the lights must had been out, even though they never were. "It was me on that road Still you couldn't see me And then flashlights and explosions" So they were on the road, and they weren't seen... And then there was a blinding explosion...indicating the forceful impact of a violent collision, most likely with a vehicle... "Roads are getting nearer We cover distance but not together" The roads would symbolise the lives of the two individuals who collided. At this point, the narrator conveys that both lives continue, but also emphasising that there is an existential distance. There is also a sense of pursue in the expression that the roads are coming nearer... "I am the storm and I am the wonder And the flashlights nightmares And sudden explosions" The narrator expresses themselves as being the experience of the violent collision, possibly indicating that they are haunting their culprit in their dreams, by revoking memories of the experience from the narrator's perspective. The abstract expression itself also gives a notion that the narrator is telling the story from the perspective of being a specter, being perceived as a wonder and something chaotic and intangible by their culprit. "I don't know what more to ask for I was given just one wish" It would seem that from the perspective of their death, the narrator was given a choice for how to continue, possibly between going to heaven or remain to haunt their culprit... "It's about you and the sun A morning run The story of my maker What I have and what I ache for" The difference between the two lives... One life goes on as normal, following the map of the sun from morning to night... While the other is left with no purpose and no ability to interact with the world, aching to understand why their existence has become what it is... "I've got a golden ear I cut and I spear But what else is there" The narrator can still observe the physical reality, and pays attention to what goes on and and what is being said. Yet they cannot interact in any meaningful way regardless of their efforts, leaving them to question their eventless existence... "Roads are getting nearer We cover distance still not together" "If I am the storm if I am the wonder Will I have flashlights nightmares And sudden explosion" The narrator still seeks to approach their culprit, despite the existential distance between them, conveying a frustration about the circumstances surrounding their death. "There's no room where I can go and You've got secrets too" Finally, the narrator reveals that there is an unresolved conflict regarding their death, indicating that their culprit escaped from the event by driving on, continuing their life with the memory of the event concealed as a secret... "I don't know what more to ask for I was given just one wish" It becomes evident that there is a deep remorse in the choice that was made, as the narrator lost their sense of purpose in existence, not knowing where to turn or where to go... This can also be interpret from the ambiguous "Why" that echoes in the background of the song, at the very end of the last verse. In conclusion, I think Karin wanted to tell the story of a character who was killed on the road and left behind, feeling that their sudden death was unjustified, because their culprit never confessed. This is also the perspective that the music video revolves around... |

The album booklet says "roads and getting nearer", but I believe this is a typo, as there are also several other typos in the print. I think the line might have been supposed to be "roads are getting nearer". It's symbolic for the lives between the two individuals illustrated in the lyrics, and how they are tied to one specific event. It's also symbolic for how the two lives collided, getting nearer and nearer until there was a flashlight and the explosion... |

| Andain – Promises Lyrics | 13 years ago |

woke up today in casts of blue unheld but stay pretending we'll get better over time the bars and chains are old but new i got away, still under you Unhappy about a relationship. The challenges remain the same. A breakup may have been attempted but failed. so please don't make more promises to me and please don't take everything from me and i will breathe in every word you mean if you could please promise them to me Indicating promises that were made but not kept, resulting in turbulence in the relationship. Still hoping it may somehow work out, and not result in more let-downs. At this point there could also be an indication of a dominant and recessive role in the relationship, considering "i got away, still under you" in the first verse, followed by "and please don't take everything from me" in this verse. fell on my way to get it through collect the days to bend things, so it's better over time hung up on all the shade and hues always the same still under you Tried to carry through a breakup, but failed in the attempt. The situation seems hopeless as it is, with no signs of changes for the better to come. Given up on all expectations and hopes. Planning how to make it through the days, focusing on which other aspects there are available to make time pass and forget the rest. |
