Mind blowing song.... For me it perfectly and beautifully captures the deep feeling of seperation and insecurity we suffer from as a society. It seems to be about someone on TV, or a politician perhaps, feeling the hollowness and confusion for lying and living a constantly false life. - "Lying to the faces that make you a less lonesome man". And on a deeper level, breaking down and questioning existence itself - "What are we doing here, swamped in fear?", "Is this how it's meant to be?" The sinking ship appears to be the man himself. For me, the whole song just brilliantly captures the confusion of existing at all, and the resulting fear and corruption in society. Amazing music and lyrics. |

Panem et circenses translates to 'Bread and circuses' and comes from the roman metaphor for selling your political vote in favour of something trivial. It looks like the first verse is written from the point of view of a government but then changes to the population's point of view for the rest. |
