| Dave Matthews Band – The Space Between Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Have you ever noticed that when people talk about past relationships, specially those that end up badly, they tend to highlight the bad moments? to me, this amazing song is about this, its a couple that has a had an argument, and the singer is trying to look at the good that is his love whilst putting aside the current problem. The Space Between The tears we cry Is the laughter keeps us coming back for more The argument in itself seems caused by a misunderstanding or bad choice of words (could Dave REALLY choose the wrong words? hard to say...) "These fickle, fuddled words confuse me" "Waste the hours with talking, talking These twisted game we play" The song keeps moving through several metaphors regarding good and bad, and how a difficult moment can make us forget wonderful times easily. My favorite line is We're strange allies With warring hearts I think it describes the sort of arrangement that can happen between people in a relationship, in hich argumetns ocurr constantly but love is present in someway or the other. the closing verse is incredibly beautiful as well: "the space between your heart and mine is space we'll fill with time" its a statement, patience and understanding will eventually wear down this arguments and bring their hearts so close together that the only thing that will matter is their love. Beautiful track, beautiful Lyrics. DMB is one of the best things that have happened to music in the past 20 years... |

| Marillion – After Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Its about love, not lost but misplaced maybe. Ever loved anyone who just wanted to be friends? SOme one who gave love of one form but refused to aknowledge it as anything else? Ever felt as a dog begging for love and getting the scarps? Its very teen love, and gut wrenching at it, had a similar experience and i felt completely identified, still do in fact...15 years after... |

| Paul Simon – The Obvious Child Lyrics | 19 years ago |

It's a retrospective, and its a look into the future, a true achievement in language. its basically a man looking back into his life and how he perceived it in his youth. "Accostumed to a smooth ride, maybe just a dog who's lost his bite" is a clear explanation of how he felt before, as a rough and tumble type of person who'd rather have it tough than easy, but time and experiece have changed this, and its not bad, its just experience, its just life. The title is usually misintrepreted as the obvious child (a child being obvious), but its basically a figure of speech of someone talking down to someone else "its not possible to deny the obvious" being patronizing witha sense of affection (parenthood). The fact that you cannot be in permanent revolution is evident, the most beatiful verses in the piece are sang as a remembrance: "These songs are true, These days are ours, These tears are free". but its looked at as if even thou it was a reality at the moment its not exactly how it is right now, and its not saddening or angry, its just different. the calrification of the "cross in the ballpark" is welcome, but is also fits within the theme as a very hopeful comment to tell someone who's looking into the future (the challenge can be taken and achieved it seems). thanks to jolarti for that, I thought i was lost with a dead baseball player analogy... Sonny wanders beyond his interior walls, the future self of the speaker (his son) looks at his life the same way his father did before him, and realizaes he is quite content with life as it has been and whatever will come. I love it, it has become a mantra for me, "I dont expect to be treated like a fool no more" tnx all |
