Quite simply about an girl who isnt particularly pretty and doesnt fit in, but has a criminal penpal. She saves money from her job and spends it all on stamps when really she'd be better off kissing the mailman instead. The last verse implies that either (a) she tries to bust him out of jail but it goes wrong, or (b) this is his story, how he got caught, and now she just sits hoping one day he'll get probation so she can see him. |

Dearjulianna got it right. Its pretty sarcastic about boys who are all into the right books and music and ideas, but then just turn out to be the same as everyone else. Even though it sounds totally sad, I dont see it as tracyanne moping around after a break-up or anything, its pretty scathing in parts. |
