Don't forget that Dustin has borrowed lines or themes from Soren Kierkegaard before (a 19th century Christian existensial philosopher). The phrase "fear and trembling" is actually the title of a famous work by Kierkegaard which describes why Abraham would follow God's desire and attempt to murder his son instead of do what is secularly moral and not attempt to kill another human. Dustin has used the term "leap of faith" in other songs which is a term that Kierkegaard coined so it is plausible that this is another small reference to him. |
