This was the most cryptic Dolls song to me, because I think some of its associations are just totally foreign to me, possibly a cultural thing (i'm not an American). I did however get a very strong sadomasochism \ abuse \ humiliation connection. There are references to what i feel is the most extreme part of sexual abuse - making the person useless for everything except fullfilling one's sexual desires. The closing lines are interesting and still, much undecipherable to me - "You wanted love that's what you'll get" - is a very integral part of sadomaschistic sex, or humiliation sex, where the both the abuser and the abused realize that what they're doing is a result of deeply embedded scartches and wounds and old sours which caused them to displace what love is and what it is supposed to feel like, and feel sad that their main expression of love (and wanting to be loved) is through sadomasochism. "The gardener's coming to collect" is still a mystery to me. |
