| The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Besides referring to the Irish in the Easter Revolution of 1916, it could be compared to the Americans entering The Great War in 1916. Many scholars argue it was unnecessary for them to enter, which I feel is the main message behind this song. People lose sight of what they are doing, why they are doing it and can't think for themselves. This allows these followers to succumb to violence. The Great War is the first war that well documented cases of soldiers suffering from shell shock. They really couldn't get this out of their head and it crippled their ability to exist (classic schizophrenia). Also tying this to World War 1, the line "With their tanks, and their bombs," WW1 is known for soldiers sitting in trenches while they were bombed and the British first invented the tank at this time. Regardless of what The Cranberries wanted this song to refer to, this is what I think of. I suppose if I knew half as much about Irish history at the time, I'd be able to equate it to the IRA's revolutions/acts of terrorism, but I'm just an egocentric American. I never even thought that this song could have been abuse, but after reading some of the aforementioned comments, I can see it now. Clever. |

| Fall Out Boy – Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Did anyone else get a feeling from the "staged" fight scene in Final Fantasy 9 (early on, in disc 1) during the line "If you are the shores, I am the waves begging for big moons?" Yeah, I thought I was the only one. |

| Bad Religion – The Streets of America Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The streets of America is telling me that the roads of life are already in need of serious repair and most people take the nearest exits rather than forging ahead. We need to become the ones who are paving that road to make a better America (I feel the song starts to yell at the audience directly). We can't rely on other people, because too many people already rely on us. I also get the generic punk rock feel, where our leaders are corrupt and are causing our lives to be in such desolate. Besides the generic blame politicians and religion view, I feel this songs focus on everyone who has tried being the leader or allowed people to rely on them. | |
