first of all, i just want to say that i've read tons of these comments and listened to the song numerous times trying to figure out who is right and who is not. and after spending all that time trying to decipher exactly what is being said, i came to the conclusion that it ultimately does not matter. personally, i don't think brand new is relentless on trying to get their OWN point across, it's more about what it means to you and what the music does to you. i have reviewed these lyrics on what it means and what it might mean and i've came to my conclusion. all others will interpret these lyrics differently, but this is how they came to me. i think it is about second chances. personally, in my life right now, it's affecting me through my parents divorce. i see my mom struggling and tired from the weight of the world that she feels, she put on her own shoulders. so when i hear the 'i am not your friend. i am just a man who knows how it feels. i am not your friend. i am not your lover. i am not your family.' , i think it really portrays someone who is dealing with the deepest internal emotions anyone can feel. someone who is aware of their solitude. and when it says 'time to put the seeds into the cold ground'. it reflects back to me as someone who understands that their soil (their life) isn't moist and it's ready to grow anything, but is going to anyways because that's just how things have to be. but then again, who knows. |
