Pendelous Skin. This music has an analogy to Joseph Merrick/Elephant Man. It looks to me pretty obvious the Werewolf died. He is now being taken by angels. I'm pretty confused because every other Joseph Merrick "Tribute" songs are instrumental. I'd say this one has lyrics because they wanted to make sure we knew the hero ended dead. We can make inumerous things throughout our lifes but there is one thing certain: we end up dead. Just as Pequod ended in Moby Dick and just our Werewolf ended in Blood Mountain. Probably the WHOLE Blood Mountain is an analogy to Joseph Merrick. A "werewolf" trying to get rid of his curse. Independently the quest our life is ( it's a huge and difficuld life or a smooth ride ) we have all the same destiny. Just throwing ideas to the air ;) |

He isnt' "hypocrytical or bi polarish". Mastodon lyrics are about mithological themes. Don't get medical in this :P And it's a boy. You can see a representation in a T-Shirt which is being sold at Mastodon's oficial website. About the voices and faces, I think the answer is here: "crystalline resonance". I think that the Crystal has some kind of power, making it only reachable for a "super-human", such like a werewolf. That is why he was chosen by the gods. A normal human couldn't reach the Skull. And that resonance is making him desorientated (sorry about my bad english) and making him seeing thousand faces and thousand voices. Who knows, maybe de voices of the ones who died under the demand for the Crystal Skull. |

| Probably it referes to the time he lived under a werewolf. 12 years later, he now has one opportunity to get rid of the curse. | |

About being more than one traveller, I don't believe that. In the beggining of the album we hear "The hero of the gods", not the "The heroes of the gods". I think this explains that. |

Sorry about the double post. "You don't have to go Escaping from the long way And leave us here all alone Carve Carve out your soul Lay it on the alter And leave us here all alone" These are the voices of the journey-man's "friends and family" (and thats a good idea for putting it on a melodic part of the musica). They are asking him to reject the challange from the gods. They prefere to have him there, with them, alive and have the punishment from ignoring the gods: have no soul. (Thats the sacrifice he has to make), than going to the Blood Mountain and get killed. They think he is just going to put the skull in the mountain just to avoid getting his soul taken. Thats why it is said "Escaping from the long way". He preferes the least hard way. The solo before this part is a good way to show confusion and a "crash" of wills. Just my vision ;) |

I'd say his heart was a sacrifice: Carve out your soul Lay it on the alter And leave us here all alone |
