Junior Boys – So This Is Goodbye Lyrics 14 years ago
We listened to this song late one evening after the bar. i was under the covers next to a wide-eyed owl. i awoke with a bee sting to the heart. it hurts, it hurts more than ever now.

The 1/8 note intro. The intro beat. The driving synth. The melodic vocals. The slight delay on the keys. Oh, and here comes the cello! What. an. amazing. song. Geographer is doing it right.

At the Drive-In – Grand Mox Turkin Lyrics 15 years ago
'Grand Mox Turkin' is At the Drive-In's first song from their first E.P. "Hell Paso". This E.P. is considered Gold for vinyl collectors:

"There was just some stuff I wanted to stay special, like those early seven-inches. If you have them, then you have them because you were in a certain place at a certain time. I wanted to keep it special for those people if it makes sense. It's not that they’re embarrassing to me, it's because I wanted them to remain intimate with those people who were there when we slept on their floors. We were putting out 500 seven-inches even though people sell them on eBay for more than I had to put them out with. I still prefer it that way. I like that culture; I’m part of that culture." – Jim Ward*

Great Lake Swimmers – Where In The World Are You Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is utterly beautiful - from the simple intro with the fingerpicking pattern & overlaid piano to the chorus with those haunting violin notes. Very fitting musically & lyrically.

I think the voice in the song is looking for God, or a divine Creator. The lyrics hint of the natural beauty in this world - the tallest of trees, reddened leaves, etc - as if acknowledging the idea that there is a master creator to this world, but he can not find a supporting piece of evidence that proves the existence of such. He wants to believe, but just can't without tangible proof.

The first comment on this song ("I know this feeling all too well") is also amazingly fitting. Seems like it could be sung in a chorus to another song of theirs, no?

The name is "Shar" - as in Shara Worden (aka My Brightest Diamond), one of Sufjan's friend/singer/collaborators. She was the head cheerleader in the Illinoisemakers.
