The first stanza refers to his childhood when he was diagnosed with epilepsy. No one knew what triggered the fits, so he was kept upstairs in his bedroom and observed by his family. He then resigns himself to a life of pain and dependency on others to care for him. However, he does try to relish the moments before the seizures which have been described as a moment of enlightenment.
The second stanza refers to his teen years where he is trying to be independent, and is embarrassed by debilitating illness.
The third stanza refers back to the last two lines of the first stanza. Now he is an adult, and has learned to appreciate the things that make him unique. However, he is being sarcastic and ironic in these lines. He cannot describe the only joy in his life, despite that he writes personal and detailed songs about his pain. His life has been filled with such misery, that now that he has the voice to express himself, he lacks to vocabulary to describe the best part of his life. |
