I still prefer the original lyrics: "The record goes from blue to gold, so thank you for all your help, Oh-ah-ah-ah I know you want to jump around, but try to contain yourself You always struck me as the type to take it lightly, but now you're gonna have to shut your mouth and fight me, Oh, backstabber, backstabber! You're all alone, You're all over the popular magazines, You'll never care, what do you care? You're down with the Japanese But you've got no right to sit there saying I abuse it, when you only sleep with girls who say they like your music, Oh, backstabber (x8) Backstabber! Hope grabber! Greedy fucking fit-haver! God, I feel for you, fool, You shit-lover! Off-brusher! Jaded, bitter joy-crusher! Failure has made you so cruel... So don't tell me what to write, And don't tell me that I'm wrong! And don't tell me not to reference, my songs within my songs! So, here you go, The open road, Is covered with taco stands, Oh-ah-ah-ah And you can stop. We'll drop you off, and write to you when we land...you... Backstabber (x8) Backstabber!!!!!!!! You, backstabber! You are- -you!-Backstabber, Hope-grabber, Greedy, fuckin' Fit-haver, Backstabber! " |

EXPLANATION FOR THE LYRIC: "down with the Japanese" Once upon a time (the 80's/early 90's) it was an insult to say to an American (or British) band that they were "big in Japan". The implication being: "Don't be so cocky that the Japanese listen to your music, you still haven't made it in the U.S." OR "The Japanese will listen to almost anything American, just because it's American". Since the last line isn't true anymore (the Japanese definitely have their own distinct music scene, and today they're considered "cool", unlike in the 80's) this "insult" probably doesn't work anymore. But keep in mind, Amanda is 28 or so. Anyway, the line was meant to imply that the person / musician she's singing to, is acting way too cocky for what they've actually accomplished. It's NOT about Gwen Stefani. |

I will also vote that it's definitely ID. As in Freud's theory of "Id", "Ego", and "Super Ego". Id - "The id contains "primitive desires" (hunger, rage and sex)" |

I'd agree with Proxima's interpretation. I mostly just wanted to add that there's no such words as "tofers ellis". The word you're looking for here would be OVERZEALOUS. It makes sense, you know. |
