I just heard this song a few minutes ago and I already like it. I think this song is about Jesus who had the will to be tame. People are 'the broken.' |

| one more thing.... the (apparent) meaning of the song is an issue not often tackled. For another one that does talk about this see the equally cool "Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck" by Prong. | |

| Great song. It looks like it's about how self sacrafice is pointless without a reward in the afterlife. | |
| Between the Buried and Me – Selkies: The Endless Obsession Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I tihnk this song is about media saturation and how people "learn how to live" by watching other people do it on tv. The first lines of the song are about how nothing matters unless it packaged as fun. "If I can't dance, it's not my revolution" |

5 people saying THIS SONG RULEZ #1 FTW is the same thing as not commenting at all. This forum is to try to make sense out of the wicked poetry that gives meaning to the brilliance of BTBM's masterpiece album. The first time I heard this album I thought it was a parable of an abandoned species in a cold world struggling for meaning and advancement with no easy answers. All Bodies is a clueless lament to higher forces, Selkies is the creation of easy gods and "the rain song" the emergance of environmental problems in the face of humanism. A closer look at the lyrics breaks down that idea (that's what this website is for, right?) But I still like this song's proud desperation against existential uncertainty. Your thoughts? |
