Coldplay – Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground Lyrics 16 years ago
I definitely agree with the tone of death, but what a beautiful song--and I love the brass instruments that play towards the end of the track; the horns make me feel like a new chapter of the song began, and the same is true with life after death?

I think the "boat" in this song is representative of our bodies, to be surely broken by the rocks below. But, our souls are caught by whatever swoops down to save us "like a bird of prey."

And, I guess we are all lost until we go home...which is heaven in my mind. Hence, "you wait a lifetime to be found"

Sting – A Thousand Years Lyrics 19 years ago
A thousand years, a thousand more
A thousand times a million doors to eternity

-We could all live an infinite number of lives based on the choices and decisions we make, such as what career we choose, where we live, what we do for fun, etc.

I may have lived a thousand lives, a thousand times
An endless turning stairway climbs
To a tower of souls

-Everyone is twisting up this stairway of life to a singular point at the top of a tower. I think he's talking about heaven here, but he's also referencing a single point. Common theme in the song: many roads converging into one.

If it takes another thousand years, a thousand wars,
The towers rise to numberless floors in space
I could shed another million tears, a million breaths,
A million names, but only one truth to face

No matter what era he was born in, no matter who he is, he still has only one truth to face...that he still loves this one person.

I like to think of this song in the following way: if true love exists, is that the singular touch of grace that Sting is talking about? No matter how many lives he could potentially lead, love for this one person seems to transcend all space, time, and even reality. He could be a beggar, thief, king, common man--doesn't matter though, he'll still love this person. All roads lead to true love for a woman. Powerful stuff indeed.

John Mayer – Gravity Lyrics 19 years ago
Aren't there any other 20-somethings out there?

This song is about not understanding his constant craving for more, regardless of what he has. In this song's context, it's about relationships, yet the meaning could easily be applied to careers and life in general.

What makes him want more? What prevents him from ultimate commitment? Gravity.

Another thing, it's not necessarily about someone else in particular or cheating. It's simply about never being truly satisfied because of an uncontrollable craving. aka. Gravity.

I think what he means by "keep me where the light is" is "keep me satisfied and happy without something more or different" The peace he's talking about is 100% sheer satisfaction, rather than 99% sure with a 1% gravity factor--that will inevitably grow to trip him up.

Just my $0.02!
