"The greatest joy is like a sunriiise" Wow, so incredible. i love how young Sufjan sounds here, almost like it was one of the very first songs he ever wrote. And yet still so beautiful. |

myownsupernova I can't believe you would reference this song to Christianity, or Jesus. Sure Seven Swans was bible-themed, but this simply has nothing to do with that. I'm actually kind of sick of people constantly insinuating that ALL of Sufjan's music is about Jesus. this is simply an anecdotal reference of a childhood experience. One where, i believe the narrator (sufjan) is damaged by an intimate experience with another boy who does not feel the same way. Sufjan being the prey, or the Tanager ("for i am the ugliest prey"). I see too many hints making it easy to conclude that he may have had homosexual feelings/tendencies as a child, and possibly that they still haunt him today. |

| Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics

I saw Sufjan in 2006 before he played this song, he introduced it by telling a story of he and his friend named "Franco", that was his friend at summer camp. He then went on to say that Franco pointed out a flying bee-like object in the sky and that it was the "Predatory wasp of the palisades".
Therefore, this song is from a personal perspective. I agree that Sufjan does write all types of music from various perspectives, but not this one. I can only say that i know for certain because i heard it directly from himself. |

This is right. good job meee3. The entire album is about Michigan, a lot of it is anecdotal, but mostly it is about the history, culture, geography, etc. |

AmieLR you're a badass and good job with the lyrics. those lyrics are a million times better. I wish there was an easy answer to the lyrics, but there's not, but i think your interpretation is just about as close as you can. I do think 2 things are different though:
In 2* i'm almost positive he says "we've been drinking for an hour". Listen to that part again and i bet you'll hear the same thing. i'm glad someone finally changed "bordeaux" because i knew there was no way that's right once i saw it.
Actually that is the only correction i would make to yours haha, now that i look at it. |

janexsays, that was an amazing comment. seriously. i couldn't agree more about this song. I've been listening to band of horses for 2 years now, and not until recently did i realize just how incredible this song is. the structure of the lyrics in this song is something that's never been done before. |
