The Hold Steady – Slapped Actress Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't think it's meta at all. I think it's all about the characters having to act the part of charlemagne being dead. they have to put on a show for everyone, for charlemagne's sake. i don't really see any evidence for fourth wall breaking or anyything of the sort. the importance is that they have to protect charlemagne's life, and as such they have to lie at all costs. my two cents. |

Titus Andronicus – A More Perfect Union Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song (and the last one, and Titus Andronicus Forever ...And Ever) are about trying to escape New Jersey to Boston, where he thought he would be free of "The Enemy" (essentially, douchebags). New Jersey had failed him so he tried to escape. This song is about him trying ton find a new start. The Battle of Hampton Roads is about him coming back to Jersey after realizing that "The Enemy is everywhere". |
Titus Andronicus – A Pot in Which to Piss Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Seems like this song is about being a musician/artist and dealing with criticism. |
Titus Andronicus – The Battle of Hampton Roads Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm pretty sure the last little verse is as follows: But my enemy, it's your name on my lips as i go to sleep and i know what little i've known of peace yes, i've done to you what you've done to me and i'd be nothing without you my darling, please don't ever leave. please don't ever leave meaning that he's talking to "the enemy", and they are an integral part of his life. |

Blackbird Raum – Cities Lyrics | 16 years ago |
First off, if anything is wrong in these let me know. I did this by ear, so somethings bound to be. Secondly, I feel like I'm still pulling meaning out of this every time I listen to it. Pretty amazing song. |
Matt & Kim – Yea Yeah Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is a little off, it sounds: i hope these hands, WOAHH-OHH-OHH can turn back time i want time to be a game and we're losing this one, but still i'm sane should be: i have these hands, WOAHH-OHH-OHH can't turn back time and time can be a game and we're losing this one, but still i'm saying |
Bear vs. Shark – Buses/No Buses Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought it was a song about escaping. The first two lines imply finding a new identity. Just my two cents. |
Wolfmother – Joker & The Thief Lyrics | 17 years ago |
For those looking at All Along the Watchtower: I believe that the Joker and the Thief was a song about Jesus, right before he was crucified. Jesus is the Joker, and the Thief was someone being crucified with him. I'd have to go back and look at the lyrics, but its actually well supported in the song. |
Mistah F.A.B. – Ghost Ride It Lyrics | 17 years ago |
