| Bright Eyes – Devil Town (Daniel Johnston cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Huh, I took something totally different from it. At least when Bright Eyes sings. It makes me think that Bright Eyes realized that his town had different political views than him, and then he realizes that so do the people around him, his "friends" (perhaps parents, relatives). It's like when someone realizes that they have starkly different religious or political views than their parents. It could be quite startling to them to realize that everyone seems to believe something they totally disagree with. |

| Bright Eyes – Amy in the White Coat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
yellowpaperrose: "tea is on, the flame is blue" simply means that someone has put tea on. Perhaps her father, trying to relax her? The flame being blue could denote that this story took place some time ago, as stovetops are generally electric (no pun intended) nowadays. "Did you get that coat from the principal?" is probably being asked by Amy's brother. He knows something's going on, he knows that they're poor, so where did she get the coat? He figures that the principal has noticed the state that they're in and has given her a hand-me-down coat. And blue is the colour of depression. |
