James – Porcupine Lyrics 6 years ago
I think this could be about a form of gaslighting where he is in this endless cycle of keeping partners on the hook but never being able to commit fully to the relationship, but cant let go.

James – Sit Down Lyrics 12 years ago
Agreed, its about manic depression. I think Tim even said it was strange hearing it night clubs etc.. because it was such a depressing song.

The Smiths – What's the World? (James cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
This was James' first single and is about the music industry i think.. a slightly recurring theme for Tim in the early days - look up Johnny Yen. some of the lyrics printed above are wrong though.

should read something like:

"what will you sell,
with the glasses and suit,
heart and soul, wont wear out?
that's not enough,
i want what's inside.
take the fish fillet knife
and cut right through my eyes.

I'm looking for some words to call my own.
not worn out phrases and hand-me-downs.
They'll mock me on where i stand.
A bug on its back in a corned beef can.

Going under, you can feel them pulling you down
to the rust inside.

This is the way a new star is born
From those bits and pieces others have worn
All held together by a management glue
Too much glue and watch your stars turn blue...

going under, you can feel them stripping you down
to the holes inside."

Belle & Sebastian – I Know Where the Summer Goes Lyrics 18 years ago
i remember playing the game, 'head down, thumbs up' at crookfur primary school in Glasgow. is this just a scottish thing? regardless of the overall meaning of the words, the feel of it reminds me of when i was young and those endless summers. where did all the time go? it seemed that you could go out playing after school for what seemed an eternity. now it feels like a week is equivalent to a day in younger years...
