Bright Eyes – A Song to Pass the Time Lyrics 17 years ago
"Now I have locked my actions in the grooves of routine
So I may never be free of this apathy"

that's the line that has so far spoken the most to me (of course they all have, but this one came first. barely.)
i think it says a lot about how humans are, and how busy, self-centered and creatures of habit we are. and there is so much suffering all around us, and we .know. this, but we have trapped ourselves. we are very apathetic people. and it is .our. fault.
and when we hear about, you know; starving, sick people or people dying all over the world, do you know what a lot of us do?
we go "oh, that's sad". we think about it for a bit, or maybe not at all, and then we go on with fucking life.

but i love this song very much. it is amazing as a closing song for fevers&mirrors which is definitely conor's most depressing album.

Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics 17 years ago
i agree with someone's comment up there about it being very mocking/sarcastic, because you're right, it's not like most of his lyrics.

but he sounds amazing, like always. especially the chorus.

and even for a blunt song, it's easy to interpret it many different ways. it's not like he just went "i'm feeling lazy, i'm going to throw a bunch of blatant lyrical crap together and make a song". no.

and i don't really think he's bi. but i love that part anyway. and i'd still love conor if he was bi. possibly even more.

Bettie Serveert – Lover I Don't Have To Love Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's ok as a song, but nothing can top the original.

Something I find rather amusing is that in the original chorus it goes "i want a girl who's too sad to give a fuck" and the second part is "i want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk." In this version, it's only "i want a boy...".

I agree with Ddadutta also. :)

Cursive – Driftwood: A Fairy Tale Lyrics 17 years ago
i love how cursive can take pop culture references (pinocchio, the wizard of oz) and twist them. it makes for insanely good songs.

and the cello in this song is really good.

Bright Eyes – The Movement of a Hand Lyrics 17 years ago
i love the imagery in this song.
this song, for me, reminds me... it's always carried (for me) a sense of these two people, these two lovers, and they're both quite imperfect. and their relationship is falling apart - and one of them is behind, or slow to catch on, and this is about that one realizing what happened. that maybe they weren't meant to be, and they've said goodbye, and the shock has given way to grief.
and i love the part about the car. i can just imagine that, these two people in a car, driving and driving on an off-white subtle morning.
and the music in the background i always thought sounded like the music described in the song, the way it's both sad and happy and floating and small and tinkly.
and of course, conor's voice makes everything seem so despondent. this song is just floating here, waiting, sad.
