| Elliott Smith – See You Later Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i was always sure it was "nitrate" too. seems to make more sense to me, though idk, i guess it could be "nightrain"... little pretentious though (and therefore unlike elliott). |

| The Dodos – Fools Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| this song reminds me of death of a salesman. | |
| Bright Eyes – Method Acting Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i've thought about that, el lobo, just like i thought that his friend with a "handsome hell" ("who changed his name but couldn't change himself") in "i will be grateful for this day" is elliott. someone should ask conor. :) | |
| Bright Eyes – Messenger Bird's Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| ahaha reading the old comments is so funny. conor's more than proven that he is a brilliant lyricist in the past few years. | |
| The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this is the fucking best song ever. the beatles will NEVER get old. & my father keeps telling me that john lennon thought this song was about *him*. that was probably already observed dozens of times, i'm just too lazy to go back and look through the comments. |

| Pink – Dear Mr. President (feat. Indigo Girls) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i don't know, i like this song and i'm an asshole elitist, haha. | |
| Bright Eyes – A Song to Pass the Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Yes, I can be healed There is someone looking for what I concealed In my secret drawer, in my pockets deep You will find the reasons that I can’t sleep And you will still want me i don't think he's talking about his coke addiction... this song seems to be about relationships and just observing things, and that line seems to be about someone loving him even after they've seen what ails him. |
|
| Elliott Smith – Looking Over My Shoulder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| it's funny how clear and straight-forward elliott's voice is in this song and yet i'm not sure of the lyrics, are these correct? | |
| Elliott Smith – Placeholder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"just like my favorite song some pretty words that didn't last that long." i always thought this referred to a person--another bad relationship. regardless, this song is the best. |

| Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

|
| Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| is it possible to dislike this song? | |
| Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| fantastic. | |
| Cursive – Bloody Murderer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| oh, cursive is so cool! | |
| Cursive – Art Is Hard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song isn't that hard to understand, everybody has it down. "and that CD cells. yeah, what a hit. you've got to repeat it, you've got to sink to swim" the horns in this song are fucking awesome. |
|
| Cursive – Butcher the Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i love tim's voice here: "No, that's not fair. No, that's just obscene." the cello in this song is do damn striking. and yes, if you don't own the album, buy it, now. it's a lot easier to understand and appreciate when you have the booklet. i think BDPosseJon has a good idea of what he's talking about. "what a day to sever such ugly extremities" does seem rather like it's referring to his penis, but femmesofrussia, that's a really good point too, and both are probably right. the theme of "art is hard" definitely carries into the rest of the album (and seems to excuse some of it, too)--he does write about meaningless/ruined relationships, and that's really all the "fans" want to hear about, his pain. this song seems to deal with both themes. |

| Bright Eyes – The Joy in Forgetting/The Joy in Acceptance Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i agree with kate; many people dislike bright eyes because of conor's voice and its off-key quality, calling him "whiny, overrated," etc., but wow, they're missing out, and this song epitomizes exactly what they're missing out on. | |
| Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"there's a muddy field where a garden was and i'm glad you got away but i'm still stuck out here" thank god for conor oberst. |
|
| Bright Eyes – No Lies, Just Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song gets to everybody who has the slightest idea of what he was feeling. just that conor can affect everybody so deeply, that shows a lot about him and bright eyes. i'm not saying that he hasn't written some crap songs, but this one is just too beautiful and too real. My salvation, it came Quite suddenly When Justin spoke Very plainly He said, "Of course it's your decision But just so you know If you decide to leave Soon I will follow" everything after that is killer. i mean, the whole song is amazing, but after that particular part--you can just *feel* how much justin saying that meant to him in the instrumental. i hate to sound cliche, but i'm gonna say it, there's no other word for it: it's heartbreaking. and then the realization and resolve... I wrote this for a baby Who has yet to be born My brother's first child I hope that womb's not too warm i believe he says "but" before he says "i wrote this for a baby..." which does, actually, make all the difference in the world. this, poison oak, and the joy in forgetting/the joy in accepting = best bright eyes songs ever. whoever hates bright eyes/conor really needs to get over themselves. |
