Black Sabbath – Fairies Wear Boots Lyrics 19 years ago
yep this is pretty simple. nice groovy intro... then fairly unambiguous lyrics, starts out with a nightmare vision of "fairy in boots dancing with a dwarf"... ends up with a visit to the doctor who declares "you've gone too far, cos smokin' and trippin' is all that you do". Me, I just LOVE the imagery of peering into a window late at night, seeing a fairy in boots dancing with a dwarf... perfectly captures the weirdness of heading home after a far-too-big night out.

Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy Lyrics 19 years ago
it's a bit of old-time rockabilly hat-tipping, and a fair bit of questionable cock-out posturing. Which pretty much epitomises led zep. Personally, I love it. Let's not read too much into it, but for what it is, it rocks like a muthafucka and for me that justifies it's inherent dodginess.

Tom Petty – Free Fallin' Lyrics 19 years ago
Have you ever dumped somebody?
Have you every BEEN dumped by somebody?

What felt worse? The feeling of being betrayed, let go, forsaken? OR the feeling of being the betrayer? Which one lasted longer? Which one can still keep you awake at night?

To me, this song is about the desolation of being the dumper. When you're dumped you can at least take comfort in the fact that you've been wronged, that you're not the bad guy.

This song is about being the bad guy. Even though you probably had yourreasons. You're still the bad boy, and she still had a broken heart. And you can't fix it, you're just free-falling.

AC/DC – Givin the Dog a Bone Lyrics 19 years ago
"she got the power of union" only takes meaning in the context of the following line: "she only licks when it's hot". I thought it was pretty obvious?

What a fucking kick-ass track. I can't really think of a band that's got legitimate claim to being harder than ACDC, not on purely musical grounds anyway.

Pixies – No. 13 Baby Lyrics 19 years ago
It's awesome isn't? The outro is so sublime it really makes discussion of the lyric seem superfluous. I am a longtime Pixies fan and have every album but this song remains my favourite, mainly because of the ending. One of those things that it's hard to put into words but I can see from the other comments here that I'm not the only one. The entire lyric might as well be nonsense (not saying it is, I'm just ignorant) but as far as I'm concerned the emotional content is well captured by the line "I'm in a state"

The Smashing Pumpkins – Rhinoceros Lyrics 19 years ago
no idea what it's all about, if anything... but it's just so deliciously atmospheric! For me, anyway, it transports me straight back to 1993 and my awakening to "alternative" music. This song is at once so mellow and yet so hard. It was like nothing I'd ever heard and it helped to open my mind. Just sublime.

The Stone Roses – She Bangs The Drums Lyrics 19 years ago
doesn't really matter what the whole song means - the line "the past was yours, the future's mine" pretty much sums it up... really epitomises the mood of the song and the attitude of the band at the time... "fook the past, this is oos now". I love it. Sends chills up and down my spine.
