has anyone here read Ender's Game by Orson Scott-Card? because if you have you might see a lot of lines that point to this song possibly being from the POV of Ender. "is there room for one more son" - Ender was the third child born in a time when having more than two children in a family was unthinkable. "i wanna shine on in the hearts of man" - everything Ender goes through is because he wants to help save mankind. "i'm so much older than i can take" - upon entering battle school Ender was forced to grow up faster than any other boy his age should have. "and my affection, well it comes and goes" - Ender's relationship with his sister Valentine. "the gold-hearted boy i used to be" - self explanatiory, haha. "while everyone's lost, the battle is won with all these things that i've done." and the "i got soul but i'm not a soldier" line makes a lot more sense if you think of it in terms of being about Ender. anyways, i could be wrong. just an idea.
