i cannot believe that nobody has said anything about this gorgeous song yet.
it's about a woman whose husband/boyfriend/lover has left her for another woman.
"go on and love her, lover her forever, i will not tell her you told me, too".
apparently he is saying the same words he said to her to this new woman. now she is waiting to see if maybe his love with this new woman won't last either "maybe you'll pull them, too".
overall this song is so beautiful and heartwrenching that it almost makes you want to have your heart broken, too. |

i cannot believe that nobody has commented on any of his songs! i love this song so much. it is simply gorgeous. in my opinion, this is the best way to write a love song, and the last line, "Oh my darling,h ave faith in love, if nothing else" is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. |

i saw this song live, and it's one of my favorites. there's so many deep thoughts, because i swear that night, i was alone in that crowded room. i was so surrounded and squished that even though i wasn't doing anything but standing, the crowds around me lifted me off of my feet. it was a great concert experience, and i loved the fact that it happened during this song because this song just is so amazing. |

This song is so touching and heartbreaking. "And where was I before the day that I first saw your lovely face?" He is obviously head over heels for a girl, and can't imagine how he lived without her. I love his analogy of an old man and womwn who were so in love, even in their old age that one couldn't stay alive without the other. All this wrapped up in one simple line that could bring tears to anyone's eyes

i first heard this song in my art class a couple years ago. i fell in love with it the first time, and the lyrics just about broke my heart. there's a lot of songs about heartache, but what's unique about this one is the underlying tone of hope, and the simple message of how he wants this love to last for him. i think everyone hopes for that every now and then. |

I love this John Mayer song, it's what made me love his music. Because sometimes things just cannot be captured in words or photographs, and why would you want to ruin them by attempting to? I listen to this song and think of my boyfriend when I wish I could have him with me when I see that beautiful sunset, or those gorgeous stars. |

first off, i must add my two cents in on the "i rely on you like yellow does on blue" arguement. yellow's complimentary color is purple, blue's compliment is orange. i think that the whole relying part is how yellow always expects blue to be there, them both being primary colors. but i don't see how that matters, this song is so beautiful. just the line "you are my good feeling", it's so romantic in the most simplistic sense. i think only andrew mcmahon could think of such heartbreakingly gorgeous lyrics. |

this song is so beautiful. i love how simplistic the melody is and how deep the lyrics are.
"i guess i should've given you a reason to stay" that quote bounces around in my brain every time i hear it for days afterwards. definately one of my favorite songs. |

I am dissappointed that no one has drawn the connection between this song and the book 1984. The clear reference is in the word doublespeak, a phrase meaning someone who believes two opposing things at once, such as his love vs. not really loving but lusting and masquerading it as love. It comes out in the end that it was hardly love. In the book doublespeak leads to betrayal, but in this song it just leads to heartache. |
