Deftones – Can't Even Breathe Lyrics 19 years ago
s_AINT, some people's religions prohibit them from writing the word "god" as its considered sacrilegious.

I agree the song is about pushing away someone you love. Sounds like Chino was with someone and the relationship wasn't great. I think the girl was using him for sex, but he misses her, not just for the sex.
great song btw.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Speed Kills Lyrics 19 years ago
I know the lyrics aren't the same but does this song in any way related to Bush's "Speed Kills"? Thats a very unique title of a song for two bands to have without some kind of relation. Maybe its just a helluva coicidence.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Drown Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song is about someone Corgan cares for who comes back to town.

The first line he's saying that no matter where you go, you can always count on him to be there emotionally when you're in trouble. After that, up to the second verse, he's remembering the times he shared with the visiting person. "All of those yesterdays coming around" = remembering the memories. At "was it something someone said" to "..and I still feel the same" he doesn't want the person to leave again. Also, he feels the same way about said person today as he did when they used to be together. In the last verse, he's expressing his wish to leave and go with the person, so he does.

This song makes me think of a romantic couple, personally. Its my favorite song by TSP hands down, & maybe my favorite song ever. It makes me cry if I'm already kinda sad, but if I'm in a happy mood it reinforces my happiness. This song is simply a masterpiece.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Cherry Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this song is about a guy who's desperate for someone to love. he's lonely. he knows a girl he wants to be with. why do some of you antogonize the girl? i dont understand where thats coming from. from the first verse it sounds like the girl is sad and has lost all hope for whatever reason.
The verse of "Hatred sleeps..." to "our greatest pretenders" seems like Billy is saying he's angry girls ("the greatest pretenders") because boys are actually more willing to fall completely in love ("where they fear to tread", "they" meaning girls [this line is not tying into the song which bears the same name, however]) than girls are. Because the girls lead them to the idea that they will love them in return, but don't follow through because perhaps they're too scared to, the boys are "left for dead". From the rest of the song though, he obviously still yearns for a lover and is trying to comfort that sad girl by telling him he'll be her lover, her strength.

The Dillinger Escape Plan – When Good Dogs Do Bad Things Lyrics 19 years ago
this song may very well be the best "screw you" song regarding a break-up because of infidelity (mainly at the end where the girl asks the guy to meet her at the diner to ask for him to forgive her and get back together as shes "falling to her knees", but then he pretty much says "screw you" and walks away). HOWEVER, after further review of the verses that didn't fit into that interpretation, i think this song is about a guy who's a little "off" that murders someone he has some sort of intimate feelings for, who now has a family with someone else. Being the psycho revengeful lover he is, he seems like a "good guy" (or good dog), as all crazy people who seem normal seem nice & good do. So now the dude is in prison and every other verse is him remebering his crime.
From "Pain, gone.." to "MOMMY" he gets the idea to kill the woman he likes, thinking it will end his pain, and her kids cry out "MOMMY" as she is killed - most likely shot. "Why shot?", you ask? we'll get to that in a sec.
From "Listen.." to "license plate" the man is obviously in prison. The license plate thing tips you off the most out of the lines in that verse.
This next verse is where he remembers shooting her and her blood goes splat all over the wall. The line after (as did the first two lines of the song) expresses his opinion that he could've been the best thing to happen to her relationship- wise & screams that hes the best she will never/ever have as he kills her.
From "Your dead things.." to "open wings slowly take flight.." he's in prison, possibly smoking a cigarette and thinking about the woman's funeral. "A thousand years...but a man cannot die soon enough.." means waiting to die in prison is taking for fuggin ever.
"A smiling drunk..." to "I'm hungry still" he's remembering being at a restaurant, having a meal, casually looking at the other customers, contemplating his crime, ect. "I'm hungry still" meaning he wants "justice" for the girl leaving him by killing her. He thinks "RUN AWAY", obviously filled with rage, but doesn't leave the restaurant yet.
The next verse he's thinking about right before killing her, when she will beg him not to. How the music gets chaotic and raging for this verse is awesome and complementary to the lyrics.
The following verse about "swing a cat and not even hit a soul" confuses me. Are we sure the word is "cat?". "Just a lonely vacuum of human black holes" expresses the man's desolate loneliness.
In the last verse the man is at the restaurant and is just about to ask for the check. "Big city thoughts in a dirty breeze, promising to set me free" is his little inner psycho telling him that once he gets his revenge, his pain of her being with someone else will be resolved.
When he screams "I'M THE BEST YOU WILL EVER HAVE" he's incredibly frustrated that they couldn't be together.
The timing of the verses with when the music starts crazy, to the middle where the singer sings (not screams) gently and thoughtfully, to the end where he talks about remembering leaving the restaurant, to the last seconds of the song where he screams "I'M THE BEST YOU WILL NEVER HAVE" as he's still lonesome and frustrated with no one to be with is all so perfectly designed for the emotion of the song's story. This is my favorite DEP song, its like crack in audio form. Gotta love 'em.

Metallica – 2 X 4 Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is not about Walking Tall. Walking Tall came out 8 years after this song did. I'd like to believe too that they can foretell the future, which would prove my idea that Metallica is god, but thats another story. =]

This song is about one-upping, outdoing, getting in someone's face, ect., because you have this raging spitefulness for them. The second verse expresses this, especially where he basically says "I'll even die better than you will. I'll take it that far just to prove I'm better than you." And by the chorus he's saying "If you've got something to say fugger, you can say it to my brick-sized piece of wood."
