i think its how different people see the different sides of his personality, the good and the bad.hes done bad things that haunt him in his sleep but he accepts responceability for them and cant change them so he drinks to forget. he regrets that he did'nt lead a better life so the terrors are punishment, each one takes him deeper into despair until before long he'll never wake up. |

my totally off the wall view of this song has nothing to do with the patient , here goes!
