I think this song is about being addicted to something (drugs porn who knows "flesh" can be interpreted many ways) and then finding someone (to love maybe?) in reality that changes how you feel about the world. But whoever it is in the song is still tormented, because they still feel like they need it. I think its a love song. The addiction is the devil's work, which is the first verse, and he finds someone and they become his center, his reason for being. Then he reflects on the addiction, some nights he prayed for it to be over, and forget it ever happened, some nights he wanted more and more of it, and couldnt get enough. Then he tries to voice just how much the person means to him, and saying hed wish the addiction away if he might lose whoever it is. He then pretends that he is enlightened and no longer needs the addiction, and on the outside it looks like that. however inside he is still divided by his want, the addiction, and his need, the person. At the end he is commanding the addiction (a LESION, not legion) to be silent in his soul and stay out of his way. |

Goat farmer every opinion is valid here, no need to get angry. haha Here is my take on it, to ME (which means my opinion so dont crucify me because you dont agree or w/e reason) I think the first part is from the point of view of an adult, talking to someone younger who they feel is naive. Saying to them you dont know what hard times are,(Heaven From Hell ect.) and you dont know whats good for you and what isnt (A Green field from a cold steel rail) and you dont know what happyness truly is (smile from a veil) Then that point of view changes with the question "Do you think you can tell?" Then it goes to someone either talking to the adult or maybe a younger person, but they are asking them if they (Society, and its false values) got them to trade their childhood heros for ghosts of supposed great people who they are supposed to become, but never can. Their passion to work for something for something simple and meaningless like money (Hot ashes for trees). Their fighting spirit and independent voice for conformity (Hot air for a cold breeze) From being okay with what they have even if its not much, to wanting bigger "better" things because thats what you "should" want (Cold comfort for change) And trading the fight for freedom from society and its beliefs and standards even for a small amount of time, to become rich and famous for a lifetime because you always do what you are told and never question what is handed to you. (A walk on part in the war, for a lead role in the cage.) and finally Wish you were here is the Adult saying he wants that innocence of childhood back. then the second adult is saying to the man that they are just two lost souls trying to find that innocence again, but its too late, becasue theyve lived this way so long for so many years that they only come to find the "same old fears" and finally he says how much he wishes it was back, but its gone. your replies would be appreciated :) |

This has got to be my favorite song to get pissed off to before a lacrosse game, "Violence is not an abberation, it's a rule, Dying beyond the pale Your beatings will continue until my morale improves. I don't hate you, I'm just removing an enemy. Remoooorse is foooor the deaaaaad!" pretty much describes the game of lacrosse itself. It makes me want to kill something or better, someone haha. That and Omerta. |
