I think that this song is about a girl who the narrator isn't necessarily in a relationship, but still cares a great deal about. The girl has had bad previous experiences and is now afraid to let people get too close. She is unhappy, dragging her feet, and has the potential to hurt herself, "i'm ringing all the warning bells/ careful or you'll hurt yourself." She is trying to hide from what she'll eventually have to face and he is trying to guide her through it. |
