Just a minute ago, I really listened to this song and read the lyrics and I found myself thinking about my best friend. It reminds me so much of her, almost every word of this song. She lives a few states away and we've never met in person, but we have been friends for almost a decade and sometimes we are on the phone all night until the sun comes up.
We both have dealt with loneliness and love/relationship problems, and we are always there to support each other. So the first verse reminds me of times when I was depressed about being lonely or about my ex-girlfriend leaving me, but she was always there for me to talk to.
And in turn, I am always there for her as well. Though we're far away, I am here to stay. |

Here's what this song means to me. It reminds me of my ex girlfriend who has decided she wants to leave me and go back to one of her ex's. Right now, I'm trying to "build a bridge" in a sense and get her to cross back over with me, back to how things used to be.
Just like in the lyrics, I'm building a bridge of memories and pain. I tell her I miss her and sublty try to remind her of some of the great memories we created. And even though it might not work. The bridge might crumble down and break my heart, I will keep trying to build it back up. |

Haha... well actually I only said that as a joke. I doubt Akon really meant it that way... but if he did then props to him for making a song like this in the face of all the criticism he's no doubt going to catch. If not, it's funny to think of it that way. |

I can't believe nobody has gotten it right. Read over the lyrics really carefully.. it's obviously about a gay couple and they are fighting for their right to be together even though nobody accepts them. |
