i think the song is about purely sexual love with no soul attached. referring to it as bones on bones shows that the singer knows what it is and sees that bodies are just bones and parts and that sex can be meaningless without love involved. That the body will die and sex is just instant gratification but that it's necessary some times to appreciate more meaningful sex. |

It sounds kind of like he's singing from god's perspective. The chorus is God talking, and the verse is someone who gave up everything to find God and wanders in the desert living the life of poverty. the wanderer gets closer and closer ( i get my glory in the desert rain) but it keeps getting more difficult (i can't pull it any longer) and wants to give up. god keeps talking to him but he doesn't realise who it is. finally they speak as one, as the seeker is finally aware of a way out (we're gonna make it out of the fire, higher and higher) and is given spiritual gold. Just a thought. |

Why are people so into arguing about sexuality with this song. Very few people are 100% gay or straight and its completely possible to be bi/gay and married. I'm not saying brandon is but it seems like he's more open with that type of thing than many people.
As for the song, I think it's a man to man crush. X has a crush on Andy who doesn't hate X for it but is kinda weirded out. And yet X keeps hoping that Andy will return his feelings one day. He sees Andy going out with girls and it causes him so much anguish. it's unrequieted infatuation. i kinda feel sorry for andy if he exists, it must be awkward to have this sort of song written about you. But earlier posters were talking about going to that high school in nephi and knowing andy, and talking about creepy and stalkerishness, that's a bit much (unless you live there of course) |

The guitars in this song sound exactly like turkish folk songs. I thought i was listening to anatolian village music (which is quite good incidentally). i really like this song cos my name happens to be johnny as well. |

This is my favorite song off the new album. It's like a small town boy left the town for a while and now he's back living there and he sees that everyone there is ignorant of the world outside and doesn't really care about it. When he gets back it irritates him that they don't dream and they've never seen the lights but he ends up being fine with it because it's the town he loves and he has to accept it. It also might not be about a specific small town but about america in general. He's gone around the world on tour and seen the lights but when he comes home he sees that no one really knows about the outside world or is interested in it but it's his home so he loves it. |

I think this song is a loss of innocence/loss of love type of thing. He feels old and tired and he's lost his passion. Being with his significant other doesn't excite him anymore. The 'pack my case' might mean that he's leaving (going to work, on tour). |

I definitely agree with both underpressure85 and Zythe. He doesn't like his girlfriend anymore and he doesn't want his guy friend to say anything about them. Which raises the question: why is brandon talking about it. I think Brandon is either looking through a secretly gay man's perspective or he wrote this song to please his gay following. Or he could be bi. I think this song is really amazing. |
