Arcade Fire – Black Mirror Lyrics 19 years ago
A black mirror is a special mirror artists used to use. They would turn their back on a landscape or portrait and paint the reflection they saw in the mirror.

So yes I agree with steak for chicken, a mirror that shows the truth about the world.

Grandaddy – Volvo In G Lyrics 19 years ago
ahhh the regret of selling that car that you loved so much.
Jason Lytles voice that can make things sound so brilliantly depressing. It's wonderful.

"With cracked exhaust made a fault"
is actually "With a cracked exhaust manifold"

Grandaddy – Aisle Seat 37-D Lyrics 19 years ago
This is such a bitter sweet song.
Its beautiful.

The message is pretty obvious, the plane is going down.
He's looking for a picture of a girl he is in love with and just having her picture with him makes everything alright.

Rilo Kiley – It Just Is Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is amazing.
I may be hugely daft to ask, but considering I don't know a ton about Elliot Smith, how is it obvious that this song is about him?

The Streets – Stay Positive Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe BC refers to BC bud grown in British Columbia? Not that i'm into that shit but supposidly we have really good marijuana here.

Interpol – PDA Lyrics 19 years ago
I love the date rape theory too.
There's definately plausibility to it. I mean, interpol has quite a few songs with sexual innuendos.

I think it's idiotic to pronounce this song as the worst interpol song.

By the way, has anyone seen this song performed at live on letterman? harrrshh. check it out.

Ben Kweller – Sorry Signs On Cash Machines Lyrics 19 years ago
Personally, I think this song is pretty much straightforward.
Maybe having some trouble with a relationship in the past, but learning to realize that they still love each other and its strong enough to make it through anything.

For sure one of my favorites off of Sundress

The Decemberists – The Island: Come and See; The Landlord's Daughter; You'll Not Feel the Drowning Lyrics 19 years ago
In response to TheSFletcher, I dont think it would have been a baby.

"Forget you once had sweethearts
They've forgotten you
Think you not on parents
They've forgotten too"

It seems to me like it was an older person.

The dimes reference, i'm pretty sure, is reference to paying the ferryman to cross the river styx to Hades, just as JD said up there.
