Growing up, the song was a love song. I didn't understand that the woman was obviously troubled or that she needed someone to get by. I thought she was asking, will you be my man? Not as a crutch, but because of love. As I got older, I understood that more. Personally that was the way I viewed the song until about a month ago. In April of this year my uncle was diagnosed with Cancer, pancreatic. And by early June, he was gone. This song played at his memorial and now the song's meaning is completely different. Basically, it was my aunt's plea for my Uncle. The song is a lot more painful to hear because of it, but infiniately more important. |

In my personal opinion it's a girl who is not dating a guy but is hooking up with her. And he keeps leading her on. and she finally has enough and decides to turn the tables on him. very good song. strong vocals. one of my favorite songs. i also love instant instant star. ^_^ |

I noticed some of the references myself and each reference is tied into a main subject. loss of innocence. this song is about the loss of innocence.. it's what comes to mind everytime i hear it. i know everyone has their own opinions but i'm fairly positive that's the message in the song. |

I know everyone has their own opinion on the song well.. To me the song relates to what is going on with me right now... Pretty Much. There's this girl who has been hurt before but has never fully given her heart away.. till she met this guy.. who to her is amazing.. They hook up.. and all that good stuff.. well turns out he goes with this other girl.. but he still cares for the first girl and she still cares for him.. and she waits for him because he is pretty much all she wants.. but at the same time is protecting herself.. but it still hurts her that he's with someone else... that's what it says to me. -shrugs- Bye |

I can relate this song to two different incidents. A failed relationship which would follow the chorus. And bits and pieces of the second verse. But also for a situation where I fell for someone I was hooking up with.. which is actually quite a current situation. but the lyrics deff. speak to me and I know i'm not the only one. Obviously. |
