Strange, I always assumed this song was about his dog, and I see here nobody thinks so. The line "She sits in a corner by the door" makes me think of a dog sitting on the floor by the door. "she can't hear me, though I know she likes to be near me" doesn't seem to refer to a human being, but to a dog that cannot understand language, but loves its owner. "you can trust me, 'cause you know that's how it must be" seems to me like he's talking about someone who is not his equal, someone that completely depends on him. And using sad eyes to get whatever they want is something that dogs are experts in. And I agree about "Though I know no one can see her" meaning that nobody sees her the way she really is to him, since many people don't see dogs as being deserving love. Great song, whatever the "true" meaning is. |
