Rise Against – Prayer Of The Refugee Lyrics 18 years ago
Flic almost has it right... The video does put the song into context. Except, it's not from the point of view of the United States. As Anthony pointed out- the end of the video spells out "Free Trade."

This song criticizes free trade, and the consumerism that enslaves people around the world to make it happen. Free trade is promoted as a way of building up the economies of foreign countries, but actually seeks only to impoverish the workers and enrich a few elite people... In short, serving capitalism.

This process has led to the subjugation of foreign cultures, and essentially, their lands are just an expansion of our factories- it isn't their home anymore.

Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics 18 years ago
tomorrowsashes and Tsk8rKFF have it down the best... It's a criticism of the liberal political body, as they are only willing to go so far in their aims to achieve social justice. As was pointed out, they'll demonstrate, and they'll cry out over injustices, but they won't step beyond the law.

Also, they tend to maintain a sense of patriotism and some tangible sense of loyalty to the state. (Expressed by the line "you watched in awe at the red, white & blue on the 4th of july..." and onward.)

This song is most definitely serious in atleast its sense of accuracy and promotion of anarchism. As tommorowsashes pointed out, there's a lot of anarchist history squeezed into a few lines. It is not, however, serious in its sense of how it expresses the message.

Tool – The Pot Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh and I forgot:

"you must've been high" is a way of repeating the accusation these people place on stoners.

Tool – The Pot Lyrics 19 years ago
I actually think this song is a shot at criticizing people who criticize pot. Its saying that those people are the same as stoners are, that they all do the same things, and that those who are opposed to it just use pot as a good excuse to accuse them.

"who are you to wave your finger?" is a way of saying: "who do you think you are?", like the others pretend to be perfect. It says that those opposed are just as guilty of having bad habits, they're not perfect. "you must've been out of your head' is obviously saying they must be crazy to think something like this.

"rob the grave to snow the cradle, then burn the evidence down" is a way of saying that those opposed lie just like pot heads do, but they just try to use their perfection as a way of covering it up. "Soapbox house of cards and glass, Don't be tossin' your stones around" is just his way of saying the old phrase "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

"Foot in mouth and head up asshole, Whatcha talking 'bout?" is probably a stab at the ignorance of people who say that they're experts on the subject, but really don't know anything about it. Say for example that a TV talk show celebrity addressed the issue and made claims about marijuana, he is probably completely clueless to its true effects and he would have his "foot in his mouth" and his "head up his asshole". "Save your shady inference", would then be a way of saying "save your wrong accusations".

"Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo, Got lemon juice up in your eye", I would assume is a way of saying that they're crying about nothing, or whining about nothing... and faking it at the same time. This one I'm not completely sure of.

"Who are you to wave your finger?, So full of it, Eyeballs deep in muddy waters, Fucking hypocrite" I'd assume is once again saying that these people are all just as equally guilty, and they're being hypocritical by accusing other when they are just as plainly guilty.

This is all clearly concluded at the end by saying: "Kangaroo be stoned, He's guilty; ask the government!"" Its saying that when accused, someone who uses drugs is obviously guilty because they're a drug user.

KMFDM – WWIII Lyrics 19 years ago
KMFDM, new and old, will forever suck. (And by that, I mean rock hard.)

FreakishFae- What's so illogical about declaring "war on the war against drugs"?

They're saying that they think fighting a war against drugs is stupid. It's a pro-drug stance. It's a declaration of war against everything the 'moral majority' (that is, those who claim to be the upstanding citizens and enforce their morality on all as law.) fights and stands for.

Symphony X – Wicked Lyrics 19 years ago
For some reason, this song always reminds me of Washington Irving's "The Adventure of the German Student".

There's a few similarities, namely that an unlucky man meets a woman on an unlucky night.
