Rush – Cinderella Man Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, "Mr Deeds Goes to town" The song is based on this story/movie. An old movie with Gary Cooper from the 30's! It's a real good old movie. Some things don't change about people. I recommend renting it. I saw it years ago.

Oh and I would say that "finding 'your' way" is the "underlying theme" to Rush's music.

Rush – 2112 Lyrics 19 years ago
Ha, ..the name of an airline in Toronto.... I glanced at everybody's input. Pretty interesting. I've been wanting to read the book Rush put a twist on for over 20 years but I couldn't remember the author and nobody new what I was talking about. I've always thought the lyrics where completely metaphorical. A conflict between socialism and individual freedom. I know they used reflections of history to get the point across but, how else do you create metaphor? I also agree with someone's post about "...and the meek shall inherit the earth" as being sarcastic. I'm not religious but I also think the quote has been twisted in the Bible. The meek shall inherit the earth. That's like saying "The weak are materialistic." It makes more sense to me if I interpret that like this, "The weak will inherit the earth and the strong shall inherit heaven. And for me, "heaven" is metaphor for finding peace on earth. The Bible teaches that it's not through material things that peace is found, as does Buddhism and Hinduism. It's all the same thing to me. Literal interpretation of religious text is when you get problems imo. Anyway, you here the big bomb go off before the line, "and the meek shall inherit the earth. The "weakness" of being greedy for power and material wealth brings conflict. And in this story, finally the bomb goes off because of weakness coming from materialism. So then the weak inherit the earth in the story. Slaves to the earth. No spirit. It's all about conscious freedom. The "Discovery" is inside yourself. That's where you find freedom. That and money..HA! You know what I mean. You won't find it outside. There is just "stuff" outside. To me, as it is with almost all good movies and stories, it's a myth about struggles in life. A struggle with society wanting you to conform but then, finally, one is triumphant over the desires of other people wanting to turn you into them and confusing the path to who you feel you are. If everybody is the same, nobody is wrong. There are no problems..socialism. The prob is, that idea is based on insecurities and control. Spiritual death. Slave to materialistic things or, the earth. If you're not like them, that is like telling them that they are wrong about their life. Man, I could go on and on about this stuff..... I just put my thoughts in a nutshell here but to me that's what it means...basically.

Rush – Lessons Lyrics 19 years ago
My first post too. I think you're right. Let's see if I can put it another way. The answer to enjoying life is in the song itself. But it looks obscure to people that don't know themselves. That don't know. Follow your heart. That's the way for you to go. The lesson is in that song. See it says, "...you didn't listen again" because they are trying to get you to find yourself. The answer is in you. That's the Lesson. The same message that is in "Closer to the Heart", another Rush song. I'm not sure if that is the correct title.
