| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 19 years ago |

There was a time this summer when I listened to this song every minute of the day. I was paralyzed by it, and even now, it still stops me in my tracks. A choice was to be made: to seek out the ultimate happiness in something unconventional or just sit around for another decade wondering, and more and more the choice was clear: it was just something that had to be done, experienced, even though the outcome was uncertain. "If the silence takes you then I hope it takes me too": If you could say "no" and forget, I was hopeful I could too, but I knew there "were roads left in both of our shoes". And you are STILL the "only song I want to hear." 1000/1000 |

Since yesterday, I've listened to this song nonstop. For me, it signifies the fact that a simple rollover in date never solves any sort of issue or problem, even though everyone likes to believe it could..... Everyone gets dressed up, makes a big show internally and externally about doing things differently "from now on, in the new year" when the simple truth is that you are going to do whatever it is you are doing until you don't do it anymore... and, anything you can't seem to help yourself from doing needs far more analysis than what a simple New Year's resolution could ever offer. see this?? argh. |

| The Weepies – World Spins Madly On Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song probably means more to me than anything else in the whole world. I let the most important love of my life go, because I was too young to know better. I thought it was impossible to really be in love with your first love, someone you met at 16, all your life. But when I got back in touch after another 16 years, I realized I still loved this person deeply (and worse, the feelings were mutual). Only now, the paths we've already created for ourselves prevent us from being together. It is the greatest sorrow of my life, and every time I hear this song I feel a sense of desperation, because my one true love is out there, without me, while the world spins madly on. | |

| The Fray – Vienna Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To me, this song is about an impossible relationship that the two people tried desperately to MAKE possible. The author, who is leaving, has become tired of trying to work it out: "there are only so many words that we can say", but also knows that there isn't really a "fare thee well" either.. there just isn't a way right now to make it work out. The reference to Maverick, to me, means that the author wanted to break free of the mold, make the relationship work despite all the barriers that were in the way, but the other just couldn't do it. But he is still hopeful. He offers that his leaving is also "my hello" and "my goodness" meaning that the door isn't really closed either... hence the bridge talking about 5 or 10 years.. when they are older, they won't run from the simple truth of their love. What I always wonder is why people fight love.. why do people fight it off or throw it away when they find something as wonderful as whatever inspired this song. |

| The Eames Era – Could be anything Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about two lovers that are at a crossroads. There is a central dilemma. The author thinks the other person could solve their problem with much more ease than her lover thinks he can. She is also offering an ultimatum; if her lover cannot compromise she will send him away to find someone else who could turn him on like she can, she says this satirically since she knows he really can't find that person. | |
| Maria Taylor – Song Beneath the Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song emphasizes that life is not simple, and that beneath the purest of emotions, love, lies the logistical nightmare that is maintaining and nurturing love. Life makes love difficult, and even the truest and purest of loves can be cumbersome in light of life's struggles and hassles. So really, it's a "life" song and love is intertwined.. and there is a sadness to this realization, that no matter how much you love someone, the parameters of life can cripple that love and even destroy it. | |

This song is about a relationship that is in a holding pattern for some reason, either one person isn't ready to move forward, or there is a question of distance or desired outcome. The happiness the author finds in the relationship is almost too heavy to bear, and the placement of autumn in the lyrics bends towards the tricky beauty of autumn; the leaves are brilliant, but they fall to the ground, turn brown, and reveal bare trees; truth is revealed. The author knows that her love will continue to grow for her lover, and she realizes it isn't necessary to have a solution just yet. In the second verse she acknowledges her own strength and confidence, and accepts that she was anxious in the past. She also alludes to an idealism that she has abandoned. "Is it in a plan, written in your hand? Believe or understand, something other than Fear is blinding lights, squeeze my eyes so tight Could you make a flower grow? Would you let me know?" In this section, she is directing her lover to tell her his intentions and she is open to ideas and solutions that haven't been illuminated just yet. She also expresses her fear that she might lose her lover. Overall, she is telling her lover that he/she is her one true love, so time is immaterial, and she waits endlessly. |
