This song hasn't been commented on in a while so I will. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned the title. In the 90's when I was growing up, Space Camp was something that every kid wanted to do. I never went, but I'm sure some kids felt homesick when they were there. "Homesick at Spacecamp" speaks to finally getting something that every kid wants (in this case, it's a little fame and recognition) and feeling uneasy or unsure about it. It's an appropriate title---the song is about keeping friends from home/older friends and what not. |

This song is an experiment---one of several. They wanted to write another song or two about hometown or with references to hometown. America's Suitehearts and The (shipped) Gold Standard are two examples that made it to the record. This is a pretty powerful song if you live and grew up in Chicago/burbs. Noteworthy lyric "joke us joke us till lake shore drive comes back in focus." If you're driving from the east into Chicago, chances are you're going to hit LSD eventually. |

I would just like to revisit and rekindle the importance of this song. Saturday defines everything fall out boy is and isn't. Saturday speaks to why fall out boy is still the same fall out boy they were 6 or 7 years ago. It really is just a group of a couple suburban hardcore dudes with some boredom. Life is a journey and not a destination and they are enjoying the journey and not letting anyone impede that. They are doing what they want to do and at the same time remembering and never forgetting where they came from and all the shittalking, resistance, and non believers they came across along the way. Saturday is about how a band can save your life. I still believe and always will. |

This song is intended to be about the suburbs and growing up to be a rock-star. Trust me on that. :) At SoundStage 5/11/09 here in Chicago, that is the intro/explanation that Wentz gave. It is not what it seems on the face. In the end, it really is whatever you want it to be (there is no "absolute" meaning or interpretation to what a work of art says or means), but the band intended for it to be about the burbs/the north shore. Past that it, is whatever it is to you. |
