goldlikehoney basically hit the nail on the head. "he's longing for some past event that he shared with someone..." BASICALLY this song is also about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And That leads me into my third analysis of juturna... With the song on repeat at this moment I am about to explain what I think is the meaning behind this song. Lets go. "will you walk straight? we're not like them to pull them in, make it seem like your in trouble make a sound, fake it enough. what made you so scared? maybe your mistaken for someone who cares" -The first verse of a song normally says a lot about the entire song. Someone once said that you may say everything in the first verse. Im not sure who so dont quote me on it ;). Basically the first verse relates to Eternal Sunshine. "We're not like them" is something that explains that Joel and Clementine had something different. something special, whether it be good or it be bad it was different. "What made you so scared?" is in relation to how Clementine got Joel wiped from her memory initially. What was she so scared of? I remember Joel asking her in the movie sometime after he got him erased. I believe it was valentines day and he went to see her at work and when clementine said she didnt know him he thought it was a joke and she was mad and he said: "was it something i said" or something to that effect. "if you remember, remember i've been trying to get back to the center i'm sure it's not like it was before" -Wow the chorus is almost too obvious. "If you remember... i'm sure it's not like it was before" is an obvious reference to when clementine and joel got their memory erased. Joel realized something was different and he was missing something. And obviously "if you remember.. Ive been trying to get back to the center" is saying "iim trying to remember your face, you seem farmiliar but i cant quite put my finger on it. or 'get to the center' of it. to make them drink, tell them that it's only water no one leaves 'till we figure this out what made you so scared? maybe your mistaken for someone who cares -"To make them drink, tell them that its only water" is a metaphor for lies. Basically the company that erases people from your memory is making you lie to yourself and tell you that you dont remember who your forgetting. "Maybe your mistaken for someone who cares" is referring to when Joel and Clementine meet eachother again for the first time after getting their memories erased. Joel was all uptight and Clementine had a worryless personality. It referrs to Joels idea of clementine. He didnt want to offend her but she didnt care. "if you remember, remember i've been trying to get back to the center i'm sure it's not like it was before" -see above "patience both we and our words are over produced by influence by influence patience both we and our words are over produced by influence by influence by influence" -This is referring to Joel and Clementine as people and how their memories were erased. The company that does the erasing. (at this point I wish i could remember what they were called) Influence is the effect of one thing (or person) on another. The company had an effect on Joel and Clem and influenced the erosion of their memories. This is the 2nd complete analysis of a circa song ive done. I plan on doing every song on Juturna. This song is most completely about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Lets Go. "don't say a word don't be grateful if i ever made you laugh lets make believe what's at stake here is more than just your reputation she's got the photos but no recollection he's got the motive but no transportation" -Okay So first verse and I already have the basis of the reason why its connected to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (II'll call it ESSM). So to anyone whos seen the movie, you already know what its about. This whole first verse is about the overall relationship of Joel and Clementine. Again those of you who have seen the movie know they started off well and their relationship slowly degraded. The both felt the same about where their relationship was heading and they both got 'wiped' Hence the 'no recollection' thing. "purely courteous across her chest are you cutting me out now after crawling inside" - This is about the 'wiping' basically. "Are you cutting me out now, after crawling inside" is saying 'Why are you trying to forget everything we had after everything we've been through.' And they went through a lot. "turn away your head what do i deserve what do i deserve instead" -This is saying "Why do I deserve for you to cut me out of your memories?" it's a surprise you haven't caught on yet it's nothing personal you're an embarassment -This is saying that Joel and Clem cant stand eachother anymore. But they dont know why neither of them has realized that the other one feels the same way about eachother. (confused yet?) don't cut me out -As much as Joel hates how Clementine is... He still wants to be in her life. "e're offering nothing but the best accommodations just tell us who you are just tell us who you are we're offering nothing but the best accommodations just tell us who you are just tell us who you are" -This is about the 'wiping' service. When they went to get wiped they initially asked them to tell them about their lives and why they want to have someone erased from their memory. I Personally Think this song is about drug addiction. cocaine in particular "Forced, we forced feeding you lines, feeding you. Look how high I'm jumping from, you'll never make it." -So the chorus of the song "Forced, we forced feeding you lines..." I think this could be about cocaine mostly because of the part about 'lines'. And it makes sense because either a person likes to do drugs or they dont. and if they dont, which might be the case with Green (i dont quite know much about his history) 'Forced, we forced feeding you lines' could signify that he has to force himself to do drugs because if he doesnt he fears its not good for his mental/physical health(i have friends who feel sick/throw up if they have not done drugs in x amount of time, although they like doing them...). "I know what it feels like giving into something you don't understand" -The First verse. He is trying to kick the drug addiction but keeps 'giving in' to it. "it" might be a higher power (kind of like God is a highe power, this is the same sort of sense. And God is something that most, if not all, do not understand). "Forced, we forced feeding you lines, feeding you. Look how high I'm jumping from, you'll never make it." -To add to the Chorus: 'Look how High im jumping from, you'll never make it'. So says WIKIPEDIA (my bible of sorts :P) "With excessive dosage the drug can produce hallucinations..." Ive heard stories from the local constable of drug addicts and he has told us of hallucinations (i can't remember if he mentioned the drug that was being used in this story) but there was a guy basically hopped up on some drug and he was running down the street screaming at the top of his lungs: "TIDAL WAVE! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!" and the officer responded "QUICK GET IN THE BACK OF THE CAR ITS SAFE THERE!" and the guy jumped into the back of the car and he took him to the station. True story. I thought id share it because its fitting. How you may ask? "Look how High im jumping from..." may be in referral to a hallucination he had where he was jumping from a tall building or something to that effect and to his friends (or him. I cant really say.. he might be talking to himself...) say 'YOULL NEVER MAKE IT!' "Walk into the light, giving into something you don't understand. This sort of thing gets you out of mind right before... This sort of thing gets you out of mind right before impact." -What Im thinking in terms of 'walk into the light' is that the heavy usage of cocaine has caused a blackout or 'near death experience'. With heavy use you can acquire symptoms of "hallucinations, paranoid delusions, tachycardia, itching, and formication." Ill Focus on 'paranoid delusions'. You could be paranoid or fear death and the paranoia manifests and brings you into a state of self induced trauma (or more drastically put 'near death, purgatory-like, experience. Hence the 'walk into the light') caused by the overuseage of the drug cocaine. 'This sort of thing gets you out of mind right before impact'. In regards to this. Maybe hes actually jumping. Hes high as a kite off cocaine and is put 'out of mind right before impact' (of course, hitting the ground from 'how high [he's] jumping from'. One can never know. Calcium waste, glitter and falling like icicles. Calcium waste, glitter and falling like icicles. Guess who's next? You're just as guilty as them. I don't know how to explain the 'calcium waste' side of things because i have found no identification as to the fact there is calcium in your blood (your bones yes, your blood no) But in regards to 'Guess who's next? You're just as guilty as them.' It could be another effect of the paranoia caused by cocaine. Think about it. When your doing/If you do drugs what is one thing that normally comes to your mind? You dont want to get caught right? Right. 'You're Just as guilty as them'. Is basically saying "I dont want to get caught. Im guilty and I know it." Which makes sense. Forced, we forced feeding you lines, feeding you. Look how high I'm jumping from, you'll never make it. This sort of thing gets you out of mind right before... This sort of thing gets you out of mind right before impact. -The final chorus basically sums up the whole song. in Four Lines and three steps: You get high, you jump, you dont feel it. It could be about the mindlessness of the population. or, to go along with touch_me it could be about prescription. If you see commercials for prescription drugs you know. they tell you that it will greatly increase your whatever whatever, so they know we will buy it because we THINK we need it when in actuality we dont. Actually this reminds me of an episode of south park where stans dad is told he has a disease (hes just an alcoholic) so he thinks he has to take all this medication and he rides around in a wheelchair because his psyche is telling him he has an incurable problem. so yeah thats my look at it.. |
