Lots of things going on in this song. A lot of it is about his personal fear and nervousness about whats going to happen next whether it's his personal future or the future of his country. I think he's using it as a metaphor for his successes in life. Like the closing lines say don't get to the top and then not no what to do. It applies to him as well as America. Don't get famous and lose your mind. Don't become the most powerful nation and not do the best you can to make the world a better place. All the stuff he talks about can be applied to people as well as countries: forgiveness, uncertain futures, revolution, dropping your guard (figuratively and literally) letting people get to know you. It's a political and personal song at the same time. The idea of being "trapped in another dimension" is interesting. That feeling of being so divided between something that you can't even see the other side. Like American's can't understand other countries or people in general just not understanding one another. "Complicated mammals on the wings of robots." Either he's talking about humans dependence on computers or he's just stoned. Favorite line "Forgive them, even if they are not sorry." Sometimes people/countries just don't even understand what they did wrong or if they do, they don't understand why they need to apologize. You just have to let it go and move forward. |

I'm on a big Pet Sounds kick at the moment, and I have to say this is my favorite song on Pet Sounds. It's also my favorite overall, but I haven't heard much outside the early hits and Pet Sounds. There's a remix of this song that appeared on the album "Hippocamp Ruins Pet Sounds." It's a bunch of electronic artists that remix and cut-up Pet Sounds. Some of the songs on that are really bad but some are very listenable. I really like the remix of You Still Believe In Me as much as the original. |

First of all, I love this song. I think it's the best one off the new album (which has plenty of great tracks). I just wish it was longer. As for the meaning... when I think of the title "Snoopy Waves" I either think about Snoopy the dog waving "Hi" to me or sneaky ocean waves. I'm not sure which context they meant but it's nice to be ambiguous. When you look at the lyrics, Satomi (the singer) says "Golden Week" which is a week in Japan where there are a lot of national holidays, so people have a lot more time off than normal. Since the band is from California, it makes sense that some of Satomi's friends maybe come to california for Golden Week. Anyway, I think it's just a tribute to that nice feeling you get from hanging out with friends of vacation and having fun. |

I really love Daniel's original and the Death Cab cover of this song. They bring two totally different feels to it. Daniel's original sounds very desperate to me. He breathes heavy like he's on the verge of tears. He sounds very forlorn and alone. It's so sad and it makes you feel for him. Musically I think it's pretty wistful in a awy. The guitar is twangy and dreamy. The piano is a bit stilted which characteristic of Daniel now. Overall it has a very lazy (not bad lazy) and dreamy quality to it. The Death Cab For Cutie version is great too. I usually don't like Ben Gibbard's voice but I think it meshes well with Daniel's lyrics. The piano is so steady it's hauntingand I love love love the drums in the DCFC version. The cymbal crashes and offbeat drum rolls are sooo good. The bass part is very powerful at the right times and the strange noise effects they put in take it to a whole other level. Overall, they took a great song and made a wonderfully haunting and beautiful interpretation. |

@passivetheory gotta agree with ya on the song meaning so i wanted to expand a bit. The first verse is some nice imagery. You get the impression that they had a heck of party "woke up drunk... "you weren't making that much sense" but you also get the feeling that connor is romanticising his relationship with this girl. The first two lines feel like he's commiting to her more deeply "I'll make sure you keep going, I'll let a lie slide" The first chorus paints an unstable picture of this couple. She "wants to die" then "wants to live" after one night with him. She was also quick to express her love which can mean a few things: she doesnt know what love is or she was just too drunk to care what she said. He (connor) is apprhensive at first "just say its a game if it is," but in the end he seems apathetic "I'll do it anyway I actually don't care." Some more nice imagery in the next verse. They are waking up in a dirty hotel room and she is probably a vegan or vegetarian "theres probably not much else for you." Then he suggests that they just lay around and kiss till they get throw out which is very romantic imo. He want's to make every second count with this girl which reveals that he probably wanted to get with her for a long time but it was forbidden "back in new york they cant find us out." So, with this new info it gives new meaning to those first verses. Connor and her were probably close and maybe work together. So when he first asked if it was a game he was apprehensive because he wants everything to work out but he does it anway because he's been waiting to get with her so it makes no difference. Then the last chorus leaves things on a bit of a sad note. Connor wishes her the best and hopes she finds someone to take good care of her (maybe its just a general wish of good health but maybe she's kind of a troubled girl who needs a lot of care?). Then he says it can never be him but he doesn't really say why. You can kinda guess from the lyrics that their night on the town has to be a secret, but maybe theres more to it than that. Ah well, I'll leave it up to you. |

| Dntel – Roll On Lyrics | 18 years ago |

so in the opening first jenny is kinda talking about all the men she's had. apparently a lot of different people and men that just took her on dinner dates. "and a warm bed thats something..." these lines are saying that it's nice to have someone to wake up next to but it's not enough if you're not in love, so she "roll's on" i.e. keeps moving. the next verse talks about her being in love with a "son of a gun" and various gun metaphors. i think she's basically saying she's actually in love with a guy who is kind of a loose cannon and it might not have been the healthiest of relationships which she expresses in her anger "your goddamn face" and the violence in the relationship "i knocked you down... you pushed me over". Despite all these hardships she still loves this guy and she's kinda blinded by her love for love "but i love love yes i do even when its weight cripples you." lets see... the next part when she says "I never loved that other man, He’s a fairy tale ..." I think shes telling someone new in her life that the old relationship was bs and now she wants to settle down. Then she talks about how she got "stuck" in bad relationships. She says the "muscle memory for love" messed her up which basically means her first relationships taught her the wrong things about love and she didnt get out of them till now. the ending i think is bitter sweet. you kind of wonder whether she just settled after being exhausted or she really found true love. in my head i think she's jaded by her experiences and is sadly musing that she can't get much more than a warm bed. but she could always just keep rolling on to find out... |

| Bright Eyes – Laura Laurent Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Evenin' peeps. Laura Laurent was the singer for an emo band called The Lazarus Plot. Like it was noted above, they were an Elgin, IL band. The label they released stuff on was Lance Harbor Records that still is or rather used to be located in Hoffman Estates. I'm an elgin boy myself so I guess I would know. | |
