the end goes "but could you tell me my dear, what did you expect?" and the end of the chorus is "stayED at home" not "stay" but my this song is beautiful. it has a real bright eyes feel/sound to it...the way he sings and stuff. plus the recording quality just gives it a feel. i am so in love with old old spill canvas and it just amazes me how ridiculously talented he's always been. |

holy crapp i thought this song was accoustic...that's it...till i read this. i feel left out. so i just dled the other version...and oh my goodness...to be in love with the accoustic and then to hear a full band kick in...ah. it sounds more than lovely. but that full band version does sound like some uh..influence..being pushed to make a song sell. only one of theirs ever, to say. some just sounded kinda, forced. the lines added...that arent in the accoustic. it sounds more real accoustic...like you can feel him. the full band just sounds, forced. not nick thomas at all..but it's amazing. if someone needs it...i'll send it. oh and being at the mercy of someone's photograph...everyone knows that feeling. i love that line so much. |

| i went to school in philly...across PA from my boyfriend...when this song came out..and it helped me so much. it would take so long to get home, and i'd have to drive for hours through the mountains. it was nice to just hear someone else have the same troubles. to know what it's like to be driving forever through mountains and wish you could just teleport to the person you love and not waste so much time. | |

this is my favorite favorite favorite spill canvas song. i ask him to play it all the time at shows, and he won't. :( i relate so much, and i love the "i know you never mean to do...." and in my case, i feel that way, but don't honestly, deep down forgive...and i feel like he didnt really forgive her. i asked and he said that he forgave her at the time he was writing it, but not now. maybe again later. and i dont think he's using the term "elixir" as in "turns everything to gold" i think he's using it as a term for an "all-healing" substance. saying, her touch can heal anything. make him happy, feel love, want to be alive, and he's going to suck that feeling from her fingertips till he no longer can take it in. oh my i love this song. and affection like in the movies..my goodness, that line is just gorgeous. |

sorry LaLaLaLauren but people aren't over analyzing it. no one really died. no childhood girlfriend died. i asked him last week. it's about him loosing his adolesence. growing out of his childhood. just, just about everything everybody is assuming is right. except for the "a real person died" thing, and the guy who said the song was random lines thrown together. no girl died. every single song is about the same girl, how could she have died? so it's not a literal death..which i always kinda thought, then came on here, and was like "ohh. i see. yes" and it was bothering me, so i asked. this song is amazing though. i just love... "and began clawing at the dirt in front of the tombstone of my bashful childhood With you by my side, you're screaming at the top of your lungs, "let it go" And I'm screaming at the top of my lungs "The ceremony was not proper, there was not enough people, and who picked the music? Those melodies almost made me physically sick" i always thought that part was about loosing his virginity. like he was there, but she wasn't, and there was some horrible, "lets make love to this song" in the background. i didnt verify that one though, he makes me too nervous to begin with. i dont need to ask about his sex life. |
