Portugal. The Man – Elephants Lyrics 18 years ago
HAHAHA.
I have no problem with divorce whatsoever. I'm not trying, at all, to change anyone's "artistic vision" [Where do you get off, by the way, saying anything about anyone's artistic vision?] to fit my "lame-ass life". And I never said anything AT ALL about it actually being about divorce. Just that, because the lyrics are vague, allowing it to be interpretted in many different ways, it reminded ME of a divorce.
The "Pears and peaches and Doctor Hippo, Met for a drink in those marshmallow clouds" thing was a fleeting thought at 12:45 AM. Divorcing couples tend to go out for drinks with lawyers, during the proceeds, as bars are generally considered neutral territory. At the time, in my head, this made alot of sense.. it doesn't make much sense anymore.
I clearly stated that I was sure I was wrong. But I felt like giving my opinion because I was bored and sleep deprived.
As far as listening to "teeny-pop screamo" obviously, if I wanted that I'd listen to it. I'm not up nights just SEARCHING for songs about cliche goings-on, but, sir, sometimes things just click in your head, even if they don't really make all that much sense.
Get over youself. You are way too condescending for your own good, man.

It sort of reminds me of the view of a kid whose parents are going through a divorce.

"He sent love and happiness into the next car" is pretty much self explanitory.
"Beds are empty as the throats and banks, That rise free of the cries and crimes I said, Are you in today?" possibly being a reference to cheating.
"Slip into them jewelry cuts" could possibly be a reference to a wedding ring?
"Pears and peaches and Doctor Hippo, Met for a drink in those marshmallow clouds" always makes me think of marriage councelors or divorce lawyers. And "Shout at pavement that’s sprouting up turnips, Who are shouting right back, “We don’t need your lectures” ", sounds like children.

I could be wrong.

On their site, it says that this song is on an EP called "Under Waves of the Brown Coat"
I've no idea where to get it, though (Aside, of course, from downloading.)

Yeah. I'm also thinking that this is about addiction.
["I"] met a person with baggy "ring rounded pocket eyes" who "shivered out thoughts", about things "golden", because it brings about a high/happiness, and "pale", because of any disadvantages.
"All these thoughts were rolled onto needles" seems to be reffering to the drug-usage-to-escape-bad-realities theory. "That’s where they hide", in the "basements and racetracks", or, "Where rubies turned diamonds", where money is exchanged for the drug of choice. After getting their desired drug they leave ("sheds out the crowd into the streets") and, perhaps, while on their way to whereever they're going, they think "What will we become?"
"Will stay where it's warm, Where it's safe from the down beating drums" Makes me think of the drums used to alert warriors that danger was approaching. So they stay where they're safe from "the down beating drums", or, danger. But, even though they want to, they can't sleep ("as habits pull the sleep out covered in the sheets that harbor rest and sunshine") because, by then, they're coming down.
