| Mims – This Is Why I'm Hot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
LMAO at the "I'm hot because I'm fly" line. CIRCULAR LOGIC FTL. I can understand why people say RAP is Retards Attempting Poetry. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people nowadays? How the fuck did this shit get to number 1? |
|
| 50 Cent – Candy Shop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| How this sort of noise gets into the top 20 is beyond me. Everyone here and everyone I meet seems to hate this crap. Then why the fuck does it sell so much? Must be a lot of dumbasses out there. | |
| 50 Cent – Candy Shop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Agreed. But I wouldn't worry about it too much - rap music will soon fade away. I mean, there's only so many times that rappers can rap about how much of a "gangsta" they are, brag about how rich they are, show off their jewelry and "hoez" before people get sick of it. The downfall of rap is imminent, considering that modern rap is filled with talentless hacks like Lil Wayne and D4L. I doubt many people will be listening to rap in 10 years time. | |
| Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song, like the vast majority of Nirvana's songs, does not have a consistent meaning. Kurt Cobain's method of writing lyrics was just to jot down everything that came into his head and arrange it in a coherent way. I have tried to apply a meaning to many Nirvana songs but it never ends up being consistent with the whole song. What Nirvana's songs are really good at doing, however, is to provoke certain emotions in the listener through word selection and imagery. |

| Linkin Park – In The End Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Linkin Park has a lot of catchy tunes but almost all of their songs seem to follow the same techno->loud, longly held powerchords->soft verse->loud chorus with powerchords->verse->chorus->bridge->chorus structure. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| In this song, Avril Lavigne attempts to hide how much of a n00b she is by attempting to write the title in 1337speak. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Obviously Avril doesn't think very much of her fans if she thinks she can go straight from depressing "mature" emo lyrics in one album to cliched bubblegum pop in the next without her fans realising she is phony. Sadly, most of them are too dumb to realise this obvious contradiction and will continue to believe she is "punk". | |
| 50 Cent – Candy Shop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Looks like Curtis Jackson's 15 minutes of fame are up | |
| Eminem – Just Lose It Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is terrible. There's a good reason Eminem retired after this - he's run out of ideas. But looking back on his other albums, it was inevitable. His other three albums already milked the "my mum is a bitch", "Kim is a bitch", "I have an alter-ego called Slim Shady who is a psychopath" and "woe is me for I am persecuted by the media" themes and the occasional "I have a daughter" song for what their worth. His inability to think of anything else to rap about is the reason for his retirement. | |
| Lil' Wayne – Nigga Wit Money Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is very deep. It's about how talent and effort are no longer prerequisites for monetary success. | |
| Hypocrisy – A Thousand Lies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
If you interpret it literally, it's about heroin. If you interpret it metaphorically it's about religion. The heroin is used as a metaphor for religious belief - It makes you happy but the happiness is based on lies, hence the title "A Thousand Lies". Just like heroin makes you happy temporarily, but the happiness is fake because it doesn't really solve your problems or give you any real reasons to be happy. Religion also traps you in like heroin because it makes you believe that if you leave you will go to hell and this scares people off from leaving. This fear could be compared to the withdrawal effects of addictive drugs like heroin. |

| Deicide – Bastard of Christ Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
A religious person is someone who believes that God exists. An atheist is someone who believes that God doesn't exist. An agnostic is someone who believes neither ie. they believe that it is possible for a god to exist. Although some atheists consider atheism as simply not believing in God rather than actually believing that he doesn't exist. |

| Cannibal Corpse – I Cum Blood Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I can't understand why this is the most popular death metal band. Sure, they're a lot better than all the mainstream shit out there. But compared to other death metal acts, they really aren't as good as people say they are, especially in the songwriting department. | |
| Simple Plan – I'm Just A Kid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Apparently these lyrics are supposed to be serious. | |
| Snoop Dogg – Drop It Like It's Hot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"What makes hip hop so great is the fact that anyone can do it. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can get on a mic and say whatever the hell they want to" Not quite anyone. They usually have to be a "gangsta" and have lots of "street cred" or else the rap community will shun them. Whenever I see an argument between rap fans about who is the best rapper it's always about who has the most "street cred" ie. who is the most criminal. And they can't say "whatever the hell they want". The lyrics have to revolve around being in a gang, the "hood", the ghetto, bragging about how rich you are or how many records you've sold, being a criminal, treating women as sex objects, shooting people with your "gat", selling drugs, hating the police etc. or else the rap community will reject them because of their lack of "street cred". And I'm not an "elitist" just because I think this is stupid. Rap music is flawed as a genre because it is so closely tied to inner street culture that it becomes one of the defining aspects of rap. This makes it a pretty limited genre as the lyrics have to revolve around this culture. And since the lyrics are the only thing that make it interesting (the beat alone is to repetitive to be interesting), it just gets boring hearing every rapper rap about the same theme. Rock musicians, on the other hand, can pretty much write about whatever they want (as long as it's not designed to deliberately offend their fans) and still be well recieved by the rock community, provided that their music is good. And yes, I have listened to less mainstream rap acts and the lyrics still revolve around the same theme, except with less focus on "bling-bling". |

| Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Nirvana's songs convey feelings rather than meaning. They do this by bombarding you with images that share common themes and provoke certain feelings. This song is about being trapped in a hopeless situation. The lyrics are full of imagery of being trapped: -"The animals I've trapped have all become my pets" -"Something in the way" This is coupled with depressive imagery: -"Underneath the bridge" -"I'm living off of grass and the drippings from the ceiling" I think it's about depression because it's hard to escape from. Kurt is saying that he is depressed and that there is "somthing in the way" of him becoming better. |

| Black Sabbath – N.I.B. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is about the Devil tempting someone into worshipping him. | |
| Hypocrisy – Warpath Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is about some undead army of darkness conquering the Earth. Kinda reminds me of fantasy books like LOTR. | |
| Limp Bizkit – Hot Dog Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song means that the standards of mainstream music nowadays are so low that anyone posting on this site could become a multi-millionaire in the music industry. | |
| Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Are you guys kidding me? This is the worst music I have ever heard. No hooks, no melody, inane rapping, a guitarist who can barely play 3 chords, immature lyrics with no clear rhyming pattern that sound just as akward when Fred Durst "raps". And anyone who thinks this is heavy hasn't heard much metal. Even a monkey could make better music than this. | |
| Slayer – Dittohead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
1. Why is this song called Dittohead? 2. Are the lyrics serious or sarcastic? 3. The violent crime rate (per capita) in the U.S. was around the same in 1994 as it was in the previous 30 years and has halved since then (http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/viort.gif). So obviously the line "Here in 1994, Things are different than before" is wrong. 4. And if they are serious, don't you think it's ironic that a band that has built its career upon singing about murder, mutilation and necrophilia is complaining about violence? |

| Deicide – Homage for Satan Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
painted faces frown, I am not a Satanist but apparently not all Satanists actually worship the Devil. Apparently they use the Devil as a symbol for their hatred of religion. I guess you could view it as a kind of rebellion, like praising Satan to piss off religious people. In my opinion it's just an extreme overreaction to religious fundamentalism. It's just that people get pissed off by religious fundamentalists and pretend to worship Satan to piss them off. Having said that, the guitar solos and the drumming on this song are awesome. |

| Limp Bizkit – Radio Sucks! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| And this is coming from a band that paid a radio station $5000 to play their song 50 times in five weeks. Its no wonder these radio station are always playing "the same fuckin songs over, and over again". Fucking hypocrites. | |
| Simple Plan – I'm Just A Kid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is a joke | |
| Snoop Dogg – Drop It Like It's Hot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Sure, not every song has to be "deep and meaningful", but I expect it to at least be coherent. Notice how nobody has attempted to decipher the meaning of this song? That's because it's so incoherent and random that it doesnt' have one at all. | |
| 50 Cent – Candy Shop Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Actually he only got shot 3 times. This is what really happened: He got shot AT 9 times but only 3 of the bullets actually HIT him. But he's been going around and distorting the truth, saying that he got shot 9 times, implying that all of the bullets hit him, to make himself out to be invincible. Apparently this gives him heaps of "street-cred" which is all that seems to matter in rap nowadays. That's what I find the most absurd with the attitude of the rap community nowadays - judging a musician by what they do in their personal life rather than the actual music they produce. The only reason 50 Cent is popular is because he lied about getting shot 9 times and as a result people think that he has lots of "street-cred", not because his music is actually good. It's obvious that he relies on this image, considering the title of his GTA rip-off "50 Cent: Bulletproof" and the fact he has written several songs with the theme of being shot. Apart from that he can't rap for shit, he just mumbles over the mic. The only reason he has sold so many records is because of his distortion of the truth that he was shot 9 times, the rap community's stupidity in judging a musician by their "street-cred" and the fact that Dr. Dre produced his beats. |

| D4L – Laffy Taffy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Whoops, i meant A A E not D D E | |
| D4L – Laffy Taffy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This is the worst song I have ever heard. The only difference between this and Anal Cunt is that Anal Cunt is deliberately shit, whereas these guys are actually trying. This barely classifies as mysic. The whole song consists of a two note pattern repeated over and over again: B B F# (x4) followed by: (lower) D D E (x4) which is just B B F# transposed 1 tone downwards so it's pretty much the same pattern. Seriously, even a 5 year old could make up this beat. I mean, I know that most rap is pretty simple but this is just taking it to a whole new level. This is the sort of thing you would expect in a nursery rhyme, not a professional artist. The "rapping" sounds like a drunken slur. Plus the lyrics are total shite. Where the hell is the connection between "laffy taffy" and a woman's ass? Maybe they should have chosen a more suitable metaphor, if they know what that word means. Rapping about women shaking their asses; real original. Only 29874734172341 rappers have sung about that before. The fact that these guys became succesful, let alone sold a single record, speaks volumes about the sad state of the music industry. |

| System of a Down – DDevil Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I agree 100% with foreignman's interpretation on page 1. In fact, I was just about to say it when I came here. I'll say it again 'cause I know people will be too lazy to go back to page 1 and read it Most people so far have said that it's about humans destroying themselves because of the line "stupid people do stupid things". However, this interpretation is not consistent with the rest of the lyrics, especially the first paragraph which mentions plagiarism. Others have said that the lyrics are nonsense. At first I thought this too. But just recently, I was listening to it, and after I heard the lines "Plagiarized existence exist, Among the writers of the word", the meaning just came to me. I realised that there is just some heavy use of symbolism and metaphor in this song. And the "strong refrigerators" line is not nonsense, it is just a metaphor, which I will explain later. Now to the real meaning. Basically it’s an anti-religious song. It criticises religious texts, the people who wrote them, the people who spread it and the people who preserved it. The first 2 lines claim that the Bible is a product of plagiarism. "Plagiarized existence exist, Among the writers of the word" "the word" is basically another way of saying "the Bible". Normally "word" is written with a capital, as in "the Word of God". Either way, the most common meaning of "the word" is "the Bible". Look it up in the dictionary if you don't believe me. The other interpretation that seems to have come up is that "the word" refers to literature in general, probably because of the next two lines that mention Shakespeare. This is plausible. However, it is hard to make it consistent with the rest of the song, so I will stick with the religion interpretation. Also, in the lyric booklet that comes with the album, the quote "For those that control the central nervous system, control society, and the world" is written before this song. This is much more consistent with the anti-religion interpretation, because religion can be a powerful tool in controlling people. Basically, it’s saying that the "writers of the word (the Bible)" plagiarised (copied) their ideas from other people, and that it is therefore not the ultimate truth, as it is claimed to be. I'm not sure if this is true, but I have heard rumours that the creation stories in the Old Testament are not unique and that there were similar creation stories in other religions or myths before Judaism. The line "shake your spear at Shakespeare" represents plagiarism, as in having no respect for Sheakespeare and copying his work. This represents the attitude of the people who wrote the religious texts, as in they had no respect for other people's work and copied them. The next paragraph is the one that people find the hardest to interpret: "Loud and noisy, Strong refrigerators, Gaining independence, Gaining independence" The line "Loud and noisy" cannot be understood until the line "Strong refrigerators" is understood. This line is not nonsense, it's just a metaphor. Refrigerators are usually used to preserve food. In the case of religion, we must consider that most of them are thousands of years old and are still popular now. In this context, the "refrigerators" represent the people who preserved the Word of God over all those years. They are described as "strong" because they managed to preserve it for thousands of years and there are still billions of people who follow them. This is consistent with history, in that there were many strong forces spreading and preserving religion. If you study Medieval history, you will learn that hundreds of thousands of people were killed for disagreeing with the Catholic Church and that there were huge wars, such as the Crusades, over religion. All these people were very fanatical about their faith, and would pass it on to their children, thus preserving it for thousands of years. The line "loud and noisy" represents the preaching of religion and its rapid spread. The lines "Gaining indepence" are saying that people are starting to reject religion and becoming independent in their thoughts and beliefs. "Stupid people do stupid things, Smart people outsmart each other, Then themselves, then themselves, Then themselves, then themselves" The line "stupid people do stupid things" refers to the people who blindly accept religion and become fanatical about it and do many stupid things such as being violent and hostile to people who disagree with their beliefs. The "smart people" are the people who do not believe the religion but use it to "outsmart" (control) other people. And "then themselves", because they lied so much that they now believe it. I'm not sure what the next paragraph means but I think what foreignman said on page one is the best explanation – that the “people feeding frenzy” refers to “feeding” the beliefs to people. |
