It has nothing to do with God. Please don't ruin this song with your preaching bull. (Not to be hating or anything, but that's just ignorant). |

Yeah, I don't know how much this song is about anybody regretting their past, in fact I don't think that's even close. It's much more King Crimson saying, "Hey, we're old, but we're still rocking better than this new youth stuff." Great song. Saw them perform it live in Chicago this August and it was easily my favorite song from that entire show. |

I can't believe so many of you are so dumb. What do you mean, "what happened Goldfinger?" This is the best album Goldfinger has put out since Hang-ups. This song is a great poke at religion, and good portions are also true. If you want offensive, go listen to B2C, "show me yo bootyhole". Now that stuff is offensive, so go get a life. Listen to the rest of album even if you don't like this one. It's downright tasty. |

it actually might be about someone he really cared about that died. it's now after the death and he's considering suicide to join her himself. one of the two ways i'd take the song. it's plausible because: of the consistent past references, "take me on back", then he says "is this the end" as in him dying. "or just the start of something really really beautiful" like a novel where the two love each other so much that when one dies the other can't stand life without her. yet it's "wrapped up and disguised as something really really ugly". he says how he "watched every inch of film flash across your roman features", meaning videos that he'd taken. watching old videos of her. "You think I'm eager to shut your eyes". when someone dies, they shut their eyes. "I haven't had the chance to speak yet, God Speed...". He's been too traumatized and jumbled in his head he hasn't spoken. and when he does, it's "God Speed", as in good luck on your way to heaven, or good luck in the after life, however you take it. "I'll drop the gun now, I'm still under you". He's decided it's not the choice for death. But he's still stuck on her, his mind is consistent in thoughts of her. And finally, "Marianne, let the ghosts sleep, just shut your eyes burn the past". Don't worry, he won't kill himself, let the ghosts sleep, no need to come to him. Just shut your eyes and let the past reminisce. Mmm. that's how I see this song mainly. When taken it that way, I see it as being beautifully written. Sad, but beautiful. The start of something. |

| The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Self-explanatory. Especially as of lately, this song has really helped me continue. It explains a feeling that tries to cry out from within, but it's not one defined feeling. It's a 'plethra' of feelings that morph into one. it's the feelings of yesterdays confoundings. | |
| Ben Folds – The Luckiest Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| wonderful. this song makes me so happy, that my heart bursts with joy, yet it makes me sad to know that I'm not sure right now. I thought I once knew, until California entered our lives. Sometimes emotions aren't simple, but this song is so simple, so strong. | |

a lot of interpretations that have been commented here are completely wrong it's about suicide he almost knows that it's evident, because she's 'sensitive' or emotional. Anything he does can be taken the wrong way. This time he knows that he is 'wrong' but even so he doesn't know what it is he did and because of it, she took drastic measures. Black tears, I'm assuming, refer to either blood that is rolling down her face or makeup like pervious comments have said. As she lays in the hospital, whatever she did to commit suicide has put her in a sort-of coma, where her lips still move, tears fall. and the lines that really prove it is: "I am mesmerised By tiny lies I'm watching as the shapes are drawing slowly from her eyes" He's watching her pulse continue to move, as tiny as lines are. He's slowly watching the life climb out of her eyes. There's nothing he can do. It's a sad song, put to a happy beat. It adds to the sense of confusion that one would feel in this situation. 'i know i did something wrong, but what did i do?' It's beautiful in its own way, and i really enjoy this song. |
